Last night, I watched my brother, Pulitzer Prize winner Mitchell S. Jackson, in conversation with New York Times bestselling author Min Jin Lee. Two brilliant writers. One proud brother. Watching you do your thing never gets old, bro.

They discussed American Hagwon, her new novel about a Korean family navigating hardship, sacrifice, and the hope that education will give their children a better future.

What stayed with me: Our kids are hurting. We need to take better care of them and put education first. In a country with so much wealth, why are we still leaving behind those who need help most?

And status doesn’t make one person better than the next. Money, titles, and accomplishments don’t determine our worth.

I’m an avid self help reader, but American Hagwon is next on my list.

Had to put on the suit for a night out with my bro Mitchell Jackson at Bookmark, a benefit gala for Literary Arts.

Love hanging with my bro, meeting different people, and experiencing more of what Portland has to offer. Our table was hosted by Blosser & Kafoury. Kafoury wasn’t there, but his name always stands out to me. Years ago, he took time out of his busy law practice to talk with me about a script I was writing about my uncle Henry, whom he represented. I’ve always appreciated that.

Felt good being around artists again. Beautiful night, beautiful people, good food, and money raised for a great cause. Thanks for the invite, bro!

Congratulations to my client and friend Tyrone Poole on closing on his dream home in the hills — 6 beds, 5.2 baths, 8,131 sq. ft. of pure “we made it.”

We hit three failed sales and no shortage of challenges along the way. But that’s the job. We negotiated the price down from $1,999,000 to $1,867,750, putting $131,250 back in his pocket at closing.

What started as a chance meeting at 5am workouts turned into this. I got to meet his beautiful family, five daughters and some of his siblings, along the way — and that’s the part that matters more than the sale. Grateful this business keeps handing me friendships like this one.
