When Estate Planning Documents Say One Thing—and Mean Another: Two recent conversations at Summit, one about blended family planning and one about trust language, highlight a challenge that shows up more often than attorneys might expect: clients and even attorneys sometimes read estate planning documents more literally than the drafters intended. This article explores how terms like "equal" and "irrevocable" can create real confusion and why helping clients understand how a plan actually functions matters just as much as how carefully it was drafted.

The Consequences of Disinheritance in New Hampshire: Estate planning is often associated with providing for loved ones, preserving family wealth, and ensuring that assets are distributed according to your wishes. While New Hampshire law generally allows you considerable freedom when deciding how your property will be distributed, disinheritance can create significant legal and practical consequences that should be carefully [Read more...]

Today is National Senior Fraud awareness day.

Have you received a suspicious email or text message that asks you for account details, or received a call requesting remote access to your computer to fix an error? Here are some tips to help you avoid being scammed:

1) Banks and utility companies will never call or text asking for sensitive account information.

2) Create strong passwords for your online accounts and change them often.

3) Use two-factor authentication wherever possible on banking and social media apps. This minor inconvenience can save you from potentially stressful hacking situations.

4) Trust your intuition. When asked to provide sensitive information over the phone, hang up and call your institution directly to confirm it’s a legitimate request.
