Salida really shouldn’t make sense.

A historic downtown.
A river running straight through town.
Hot springs.
An arts community.
Skiing nearby.
And mountains that look like someone got a little carried away with the backdrop.

Yet somehow, it all fits.

And Salida gets even more interesting when you dig into the numbers and history.

🏔️ The town sits at roughly 7,000 feet above sea level, surrounded by some of Colorado’s highest mountains and an extraordinary concentration of 14,000-foot peaks.

🎨 Salida became Colorado's first state-certified Creative District—a pretty remarkable distinction for a town of only around 6,000 people.

♨️ Here's the one we didn't expect: the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center says it is home to the largest indoor hot-springs facility in the United States, supplied by natural mineral water piped several miles from the source.

🏛️ And downtown Salida isn't simply old-looking. Its historic district contains more than 100 contributing buildings, with architecture dating largely from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Then there’s the Arkansas River running directly through the heart of it all.

That's the thing about Salida.

On paper, you can list the mountains, river, art, history and hot springs.

But anyone who loves this place knows the list still doesn't quite explain it.

So this one is for the locals—and the people who wish they were:
