Landset Engineers, Inc. is a multi-disciplined consulting firm providing services in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering, Surveying, Engineering Geology, Construction Inspection and Materials Testing. Our experienced staff of engineers, geologists and construction inspection professionals brings a focused team-oriented approach to our clients located on the Central Coast of California. We are looking for an experienced Field/Lab Technician in our Salinas, California office. The ideal candidate will be able to perform routine field and laboratory tests and inspections on construction materials (concrete, soils, masonry, asphaltic concrete, etc.) for the purpose of verifying conformance to construction plans and specifications. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is capable of handling complex projects and making competent field decisions. Steel reinforcement, post tension reinforcement, welding, and high-strength bolting inspection certifications preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Including the following (other duties may be assigned):
• Perform compaction testing using a Humboldt Nuclear Gauge
• Conduct field sampling, inspection and analysis,
• Have knowledge of the California Building Code (CBC), ASTM Standards and ACI Standards
• Perform laboratory testing of construction materials according to ASTM, ACI or CALTRANS procedures
• Perform laboratory testing for soils (i.e. proctors, sieve analysis, etc.)
• Perform field tests using specialized instruments and field test equipment,
• Prepare daily reports and data sheets, and
• Maintaining cordial and professional relationships with coworkers, clients and contractors.
Qualifications
• High School/GED diploma or AA degree.
• 2 to 3 years related soils/materials field observation and testing experience.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required,
• Nuclear Density Gauge Certification (Required) and ACI Field Grade I (Preferred)
• Experience performing routine laboratory soil tests, Proctors, etc., are a plus.
• English speaking, reading and writing required
• Knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel.
Preferred Certifications
• ACI
• ICC
• NICET
• CALTRANS soils, concrete & asphalt or have the ability to obtain certification within 90 days
• AWS
Work Environment
• The employee may be exposed to weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments. Noise levels will typically be moderate to moderately loud. Some weekend and overtime work, as well as travel, may be required.
Physical Requirements
• These physical demands are representative of what a field/lab technician may encounter and are essential functions of the position.
• The ability to work safely on uneven ground on a construction site. The employee will regularly lift and/or move/shake up to about 65 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
