I think I've mentioned this before but just like to remind land owners....fences lie. Yes, fences are only put where people put them. Often for convenience, for animal protection or animal prevention. Keep deer out or keep sheep in. Fences can be boundary indicators but are not actual boundaries. Boundaries are described by deeds and are legal records. If a deed refers to a fence in wording, then that fence becomes a boundary descriptor but generally fences are not included in deeds and therefore are not boundaries.

Many aggravations can be avoided by hiring a Licensed Land Surveyor to survey your property boundary before you build that fence. A little money up front to verify your property line or lines can save sometimes years of frustration battling your neighbor or expensive attorney costs going to court over it. Life is too short, hire a licensed land surveyor before you build.
