Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services Launches “Westport” Renovation Project on Fitzwater Street
Salisbury, MD – [October 8, 2025] — Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services (SNHS) is proud to announce the launch of Westport, a major renovation project that will transform the century old rowhouses on Fitzwater Street.
The rowhouses, many of which have been vacant for several years, will soon be transformed into high-quality, energy-efficient homes designed for first-time buyers. While the properties are not located in a historic district, SNHS is committed to maintaining their original character and charm, ensuring that they remain a source of pride for the community.
“Westport represents a fresh start for Fitzwater Street,” said Cheryl Meadows, Executive Director of SNHS. “We’re not only renovating homes—we’re investing in families, in neighborhoods, and in the future of Salisbury. Our goal is to create homes that are affordable, sustainable, and reflective of the neighborhood’s rich history and bright future.”
The Westport renovation will include:
• Complete rehabilitation of the rowhouses to create modern, move-in ready homes.
• Energy-efficient features to reduce long-term costs for homeowners.
• Affordable purchase opportunities, paired with SNHS’s homebuyer education and counseling services to support lasting success.
The Westport project is made possible with the support of Fisher Architecture, Gladden Construction, First Shore Federal, the City of Salisbury and input from the Department of Housing and Community Development. Renovations are expected to begin in October with the first homes available for purchase by late fall 2026.
The Westport renovation is part of SNHS’s broader mission to strengthen neighborhoods through affordable housing, lending, and community partnerships. SNHS believes that Westport will serve as a model for neighborhood revitalization — transforming these properties into assets that bring stability and pride to the community.
