☀️ Hot Weather Tips for Keeping Your Apartment Cooler
With the warmer weather arriving, here are a few simple things that can help keep your apartment more comfortable and help your air conditioner work more efficiently:
• Keep blinds and curtains closed during the hottest part of the day, especially on south and west-facing windows.
• Avoid using the oven during the afternoon and evening when possible. Appliances like ovens, dryers, and even dishwashers can add a surprising amount of heat indoors.
• Clean air filters on your air conditioner regularly. A clean filter helps air move more efficiently.
• Keep furniture, boxes, and curtains away from air vents so cool air can circulate properly.
• Use portable fans to help move air throughout the apartment. Fans don’t lower the temperature but can make it feel cooler.
• Keep doors and windows closed during the day when outdoor temperatures are higher than indoor temperatures.
• Report any maintenance concerns if your air conditioner does not seem to be cooling properly.
Why doesn’t the air conditioner seem to run as much at night?
Many residents notice that their air conditioner may not run continuously during the night. This is often normal. Air conditioners are controlled by a thermostat. When the outside temperature cools down after sunset, your apartment naturally loses heat more easily, and the indoor temperature reaches the thermostat setting faster. Once that temperature is reached, the air conditioner cycles off until cooling is needed again.
It also seems the air exchange when it cools off at night stops working to cool. So opening windows seems to work the best and shutting them first thing in the morning.
A few simple habits can go a long way toward keeping your apartment comfortable while helping your cooling system operate efficiently throughout the summer. Stay cool and enjoy the sunshine! ☀️🏡
