Hi Friends.

For anyone wondering if anything will ever change. If knowing the dark truths of a world gone nuts will encourage a shift. A dramatic enough wake up to reorient our lives.

The answer is simple.

It already has.

We cannot help but be transformed in the face of knowing others are suffering. But before there is change there is a reckoning in the body. The psyche. The heart. When we face the reality of injustice and depraved ugliness toward life, we feel it. We lose our minds. We scream and cry at the feet of trees. We wail from mountain tops and listen with absolute stillness to every witness and victim who is willing to tell us the truths of their experience in this world.

And after days or decades of expressing our rage and telling our friends and foes, families, leaders and churches (anyone who will listen to the tales of sick lives, insane people crime-ing against humanity), we become drained of shock and disbelief and turn our energy toward change. To help. To hold. To action. We tend to the garden of hurt hearts. We become flooded with compassion and we change how we work, how we breathe, how we serve. Our duty is different after knowing the truth.

Love is not blind. All beings discarded by the world are seen through the lens of our transformed hearts. When more eyes open to the injustices happening all around us, the strength in numbers is not exponentially human. It is incomprehensibly Divine. We are holy together. Strong. Clear. Resolved. On behalf of each other, we stand and salute the simple spark of life in one another. And where there is pain, we digest it.

Unafraid we take in the suffering perspective of survivors.

When we truly understand the darkness and refuse to fear it, love and courage remain. Life benefits from our change. Our broken hearts healed, bursting with a warriors resolve— we will change the world. *Are changing the world.

And everyday there are more of us who not only know the schemes of the oppressors, but who have been changed by the truth. Our lives transmuted. And we are millions. In every nation. On every land. The majority.

Humanities children will be free.

As we choose to see.
And change,
accordingly.

Hello friends.

Feels like a good time to return to some basics as we all continue to synthesize all this, everything.

When we gather up the teachings from ancient and now wisdom, one thing is always true. We as humans, and animals and earth, share an essence. A life force that makes up our soul in common. And our job is to be in touch with our own portion enough, to also know and respect it in others.

But not just intellectually. By experience. When we follow our intuition powered by the heart, remembering our larger collaboration with life itself, it’s that very force that guides us. We get in the mix. The substance. At least more often. Following our guts while understanding we are connected with all things. A new shared language emerges as we get to know each other within that source.

An honest recognition.

In these insane times, the sanity in each of us is a stable offering to the field. So as best we can we find our center and let our selves be influenced by this source that wants the wellbeing for all. Because it is the all. And we let ourselves out of the box of separateness. And see each other. As one life veiled in all these forms.

If we want to think beyond borders, we must be beyond borders. What if love reigned supreme in us, and traveled out in all directions. Even for a moment. A freedom call for the soul we share. For the kids in all countries. For the elders. For all artists everywhere. For all mothers. All imprisoned. What if we included the all more often, in our own perceived identity. Seeing individuals as part of our same extended self. Shared soul work. What if we simply started allowing the ripples of our miraculous hearts to not draw boundaries around certain folks, intending all things to receive our frequency of care.

Yes there is darkness, but our power lies in our ability to birth the light. And we all are.

Placing palms on the ground is a good practice. Feeling our friends hearts is a good practice. Grief tending, good practice. And aligning with the shared power of our collective soul and choosing to influence it with the noble love of our steady hearts — that’s survival.

And we intend to.

I remember when I thought god lived outside the soil. Was a man. And didn’t breathe through trees. It was only a few decades ago that I thought following rules would get me to a family in a place called heaven, somewhere outside my body. That natural laws were given to me by a bishop or a principal or professor, and not something that gave birth to me in every breath— a moral code contained in the cosmos, and my blood.

Depression and addiction and a drive to save others comes from a system that tells us that we need to be saved. Love and peace and integrity come from knowing we already are. When we transform our base desires into the fuel for a journey of self discovery and experience-filled wisdom, we spark gifts for the world around us. We see others also on paths of discovery toward communities where everyone who cares for life, is welcome.

Body loving believers in the beauty of existence have taught us through countless sages that every last teaching shows us a path from the ground to the crown. In us. A movement in man. A wisdom. A force. A balancing of power in man. Through our own bones and our own brain. Organs of light show us treasures in the spine and the mind. Our mother and father, two sides to the same strand of genes that flow our ancestors toward each other as we hug and love our neighbors. When we break through the veil in our own cells, life is no longer a prison. And we feed each other. And dress each others wounds. And hold each others hearts in grief. And joy. And renewal.

And above all, we see each other as holy. And sovereign. And strong. We suffer and strive together in every land, through every body. We are one. Healing and whole. Our time has come. To be here. Day by day, night after night. As a people. On a planet. Breathing air together. And choosing.

How to dream what’s new. Into being.

Calm at the center.

Seems like a healthy place to be as we honor the darkest time of the year. Lets hold onto the light honoring practices of our ancestors. Candles. Stories of warmth. We center radiance at this time of year. To be glad. To remember hope. The days will not keep getting darker. Rather, there will be a turning and a re-turning of what gives us life. The sun goes down, rests, but wakes us up again. During these particular days we are gifted with less business if we do it right. More nature and quiet and star light. More fireside and simple conversations, conserving our energy. Meditations on what light in us is ready to bubble forward. Springs easy when the time thaws right. We settle into what is, creating space around ourselves. Inside, a less rushed system.

Today is a day to behold the season that is us. A realm of particles, plasma and bones. Organs of light and blood and setting suns, at rest. Breath dawning and diving into every place that makes us strong, and vibrant and living. When the light is less at this time of year it’s because it is somewhere else, hidden, not gone. Preserved. So we go inward to feel it and find it. Trusting that life will return home, centered. That quiet place where integrity is fortified. Our nature. As we trace our origin back through our inner kingdom we find billions of other breathers, people, right now Being. Beaming light on the path to community. At every moment we are all here. Not one of us left out. No tree or stream or baker who is not sharing air in this place we are co-creating. More light will return in a few days and we will be contributing ours to it. Finding more clarity, inner senses stabilized. The winter spark in our collective humane heart is flaming a direct path to a new life, a hidden route revealed through each of us.

It’s been a long night. Let’s keep tending kindly to what we have going on inside us, so we can come out strong. In every dawning season of our lives. We can create a soft manger of safekeeping for our bodies, for our being, with our breath. Let’s accept ourselves and all our parts, restful on the hay of these newborn hearts.

I am really glad you’re here.

Yo friends.

Here’s how it’s gonna go. We are going to keep showing up for each other. It’s heart melting to witness what is happening in small groups and large ones, in person, and from a distance.

We are at a time in the story when the prelude ends and the orchestra begins. Again. We are both uttering a new song and allowing the final note from the last one to smooth out its ending. An entire teaching in one myth. Our lives are a whole journey. There are ancient tales around the importance of what is created between the echoes of two words, worlds. There’s an aliveness in the liminal space between what’s almost over and what’s already started. The silence is dynamic. In the crossover is creation. The movement of sound makes me and you, the space between the canyons of creation is a subtle secret, not mayhem, but a birthing from beauty and order and love. A valley carved vessel to contain all the laws of creation. We are the coherent vibration emerging through cosmic forces. Finally remembering.

We are sounding the call of the curtain. The first and final act of our lives in every breath. A new beginning. Middle. Bow.

This is the season where we wake up. We introduce our truer selves to the characters we have played. And we welcome new stars onto this stage. Old friends with fresh faces. We look around at the ones who have made it, and refuse to see them through an old lens. The people in our spheres are treated as the treasures they are. Currency is different now. It’s our bonds that bring true value. Relationships. With each other, with ourselves, with all that is. A new health around a new hearth. And we will continue to work together in trust. And joy. And celebration. In this time we adore the endurance in each other. So many ordinary sages. Everywhere, grace. Our lives a force of sacred and quiet movement.

We are the seekers, the sought and the seeking. An internal unveiling. A home, we’ve always been. Lights on.

Even in the dark.

We got this.

I am so proud of my parents. They are both in their eighties now. And told us kids and grandkids the other night that it’s time to shift away from presents for Christmas. It’s too much. And amen to them for that.

If we don’t look to our elders for their wisdom before they are gone, what other losses will we manage to miss, here in plain sight. If we think the greatest gifts come wrapped in bows and paper—and not in the hearts of the people we love and respect— we are lost. There are wise folks everywhere with life diamonds ready to be revealed, waiting for someone to see the shine. The cut. The color. Of perfection. Not in the people. But in the consciousness hiding inside them. We reveal each other by seeing. Each. Other.

Beyond the form.

What a gift it is to know that life is in the sun. The cat. The fire. The friend. The mountain. The moon and sea and song. Presence prepares us for silence. Stillness. Solitude. Where we find the gifts in each other. As, each other.

I do yoga with my parents every week. We Om. And pray. And sit alone, together. And sometimes I smile or cry, as I breathe to new beginnings. To memories unfolding like flowers in a field. Seasons come and go. But the wise words from the ones we love, are like soil and fragrance and seeds. A hidden birthing.

We are at a time of renewal.
What ends. Is not real.

On a day filled with contradictions, it feels like a healthy time, to digest, the truth.

On one hand, we can be proud of the parts of us that stand up for our more fragile friends at the table. And on the other, recognize that most folks are stronger than we give them credit for, and don’t need our rescue. And when we jump to their defense, often times we are jumping to soothe our own weak stance, not truly grounded in our authentic being.

On one hand, we are justified in staying home from the party, the table, society. On the other, it is selfish, leaving few to do the work of many. We are the uncle who says weird s**t. And the one who stands up against it. We recognize the off vibe in the room. And so often, we forget how we are contributing to it.

I think maybe the holidays become holy days when we find ourselves in them. Especially when we can experience our deepest most simple and inner self on these days so often complicated with tradition and tinsel.

When we drop our names, and our titles and beliefs. When we distance ourselves from the enemies inside us and welcome the ones beside us, we discern between real threats, real harm, real villains, and the ones on the battlefield inside us, unconsciously projected across enemy lines.

But, we can quiet the room in our bodies, where we think before we speak. Where we feel before we shove. Where we reclaim all our parts and place in one hand our past projections and in the other our future paths, and breathe into the center, our wholeness. From the heart. We live. Today.

What could be better than believing in the world. And our place in it.

We are becoming. Home.
Provecho.

Hiya.

What a week. It’s weird out there. Let’s be well, together, instead. As best we can. ;)

So, here’s just a little reminder for all of us to keep enjoying the simple experience of being embodied— if it’s helpful. To not run from the nowness of our reality. To not hide or grasp or slide into delusion. Our lessons are right here, up close, in the breath. In the heartbeat. In touch and tenderness. In the strength of the spine. In loving each other. In seeing one another as human. As whole. As inherently valuable.

When we start within, and find love. We live it, out-loud. Even in the silence. The thing about this collective cosmos; our vibration is known, a billion echoes colliding back toward one another until we hear the sounds we are making, together. As the music reverberates in our homes and communities, we will know it by its tone. We feel it. If it’s odd or ‘off’, we tune our own instrument, before throwing bricks at other choirs. And we listen more closely to the ground of our own becoming. We sense into our relationships and if there is no longer resonance, we clean it up. By working on it, or walking away. No more apathy.

We are at a time when what matters most is not our desperation but our determination. How committed are we to offering ourselves and the world a song worth hearing. We do not tolerate abuse in our bodies. Our minds are no longer tuned to chaos. Our emotions flow with the momentum of love and we resonate honestly with what serves the collective good.

We cause less harm to ourselves by eating sun filled foods and forgiving our enemies. We are bordered by brothers and sisters who are not of the same faith, but of the same frequency. One of care, for the planet and for each other. We are mystics and sages and poets and friends. We are lovers and warriors and welcoming committees to those fresh on the path of uprightness. We are engaged with life. We respect the reverberation of creation. And we are cosmically oriented toward the Self that we all are. Beautiful Beings simply and bravely engaging with the world around us, by listening to the music inside us, and playing ourselves and each other the sweet and stable harmony—

of Home.

Yo friends. Hi. How we doing?

I wanted to jump on and say how sweet it is to be loved. By anyone. For real. I keep feeling like the dogs on the trails are being extra kind. Their gaze is longer and more intimate. It’s almost as if, all life knows we are in transition.

Growing, waking, walking each other home. The trees are hugging back. Our colleagues are more caring. Our boundaries more clear and more kind. And there is pain and deceit and death. But somehow, someway, the thing we all strived for is happening. Truth. And action. And healing space in our bodies for more love. We are welcoming more shared peace in our communities in ways that have me weeping with gladness and gratitude more often than I would expect in times like these.

Folks I know are not turning a blind eye to anything. We are seeing it. And maybe that’s why there can also be stillness. The monster under the bed is less a made up fear and more a global reality. But knowing we have the strength to look and work together on solutions and shared safekeeping, is not just heartening. It’s miraculous. And genuine.

For all the awful, there is also faith in humanity, care for neighbors, food for strangers. Soul gazing.

I will never deny the reality of our pain, but I would be a liar if I denied our joy. It’s rebirthing us from the inside out. And it feels glorious to be breathing with so many, and at such depths.

God bless us all. We’re doing it. Together. En serio.

Welcome Home, Love.

Hello friends, and happy Sunday.

How are we?

Feels like a good day and a good time for a little contemplation. Stay with me. ;)

Sometimes it’s helpful to imagine ourselves through the lens of these concepts we hear about in sacred texts. Like particularly how we are a reflection of the cosmos. The Divine. We’ve read of or perhaps witnessed still water, showing us who we are. Inside.

If we imagine ourselves standing in front of a mirror, with a massive amount of light shining at us from behind, so powerfully that much of it makes it through our body, penetrating the form in many places, shining right out the front of us. Not all of the light makes its way through, some of it, blocked in the body, casts a shadow.

That combination of light, and from some places, shadow — is our face. What we see in the mirror is a mix of what is obscured and what is real. The parts of us that are an authentic reflection in the water of holiness, and the parts that are missing from view, the ripples in the pond of reality. What we see out in front of us is a glimpse of what we are, and, a shadow hiding the parts of us we cannot see.

Life in many ways, is about recognizing that where that light is shining through us from behind, or from the inside, is blocked in some places by our knots and our scars and our tangles. So we choose to unravel them. To heal them. To dissolve them in the light of love and truth and awareness. Easier said than done, but be done, it must. Otherwise we will keep looking in the mirror of life out in front of us, seeing a shadow, and mistaking it for our face.

We are more home, the more often we are able to recognize a few things. The Source of the Light is not separate from us, it is Us. We see more clearly the people out in front of us, depending on how much of us we clear up. And maybe most importantly, all life around us, the plants in our homes, our pets and our neighbors, our moms and our enemies, have faces whose contours and curves are made flesh by the presence of light, Life-Force that comes from the same source that makes us visible, to them. This Subject that we are. Is the same Subject, seeing, everything.

Welcome Home friends.
Love you.

TINY SHOP | BIG ENERGY

When it comes to being at home in our lives (body and house included), a well-rounded community has been gathering at cityhome for a couple of decades. Our deep-rooted sense of what it takes to make a vibrant space, be it internal or external, is shared with so many makers and creatives, feelers and doers and wise ones. Experiencing ‘home’ as a course worth charting is a reality cultivated within the walls of our collective, and shared in the spaces of an extended community of deliberate hearth and home tenders. We love nothing more than seeing folks feel free to authentically express themselves in our space on South Temple.

The gatherings have been varied and rich over the years and we love it when folks feel inspired to cultivate home rituals wherever they are in the world.

Coupled with our forever desire to help local creatives and makers get paid, we continue to curate vibrant items from friends, as well as from global object seekers, for a tiny shop that has been packing a not-so-small, yet subtle punch. Anything that helps our folks continue to deepen at home, to us, is a breath of fresh air. So whether you have already been snagging incense and candles from us, drinking teas or coffees from the best wood-fired vessels in town, or if you have been taking the meditations on home, home — we wanna whisper and shout out, success! And a huge hug to all of our long time real estate and design clients who continue to hire us for all of our home services. Long live local! What a joy to be a born and raised small brokerage with a global influence.

To see our community creating shelter from the inside out, is both grounding and inspiring. Let’s keep making home together!

The Shop at cityhome hours are Monday through Saturday, 8am-7pm. We also offer a variety of services, community gatherings, workshops and classes. Come in and chat and see what resonates.

Finally, in addition to inside, you may find us out on our stoop or in your neighborhood. Keep watch for our Truck Pop-up, which will house items from The Shop, select furniture pieces, and plenty of tangible items ready for a happy send off.

From our home, to yours. ;)
