Today is National Lighthouse Day!
Lighthouses have been a beacon of hope and safety for sailors. Many are national historic landmarks. This is Sankaty Head Light, a lighthouse located on Nantucket Island near Siasconset. It was built in 1850, was automated in 1965, and is still in operation. Nantucket Island is full of history and a great place to vacation. We used to go just after Labor Day, the weather was still beautiful. We talk often about getting back there some day. Soon I hope!
