What does a dark spot on the ceiling mean?
Usually a spot like this is an indication of water damage. This is a sign that the roof is (or was) leaking, though it could also be from a pipe or the HVAC system above that area.
In any case, this is an issue that needs to be addressed quickly to prevent further damages. It can costs thousands of dollars to replace a roof, but if left too long, can end up costing much more when mold starts to grow, structure starts to rot and electrical systems start to short out.
