This Black History Month, I honor the shoulders we stand on. As a Realtor, I am especially grateful for the Black pioneers in real estate who broke barriers, opened doors, and fought for fair housing so families like ours could build wealth through homeownership.

✨ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – While known for civil rights leadership, his advocacy for the Fair Housing Act of 1968 helped dismantle discriminatory housing practices that kept Black families from owning homes.

🏡 Dorothy Mae Richardson – Often called the “Mother of Community Development,” she pioneered the Neighborhood Housing Services model, helping low-income families repair and purchase homes — a model still used across the nation today.

📜 Charles Hamilton Houston – A legal architect of civil rights victories, his work laid the foundation for dismantling racially restrictive housing covenants and segregation in real estate.

🤝 Clarence Mitchell Jr. – Known as the “101st Senator,” he was instrumental in lobbying for the Fair Housing Act, helping make housing discrimination illegal.

🌍 Barbara Jordan – A champion for justice whose legislative work strengthened civil rights protections, including those impacting housing access and equality.

Because of their courage, advocacy, and persistence, more Black families today can pursue homeownership, generational wealth, and community stability.

This month, I don’t just celebrate history — I honor legacy. And I remain committed to helping families turn keys into opportunities and houses into homes. 🖤🏡
