SACRED CLOTH
As I sit here tonight making the final touch-ups on my uniform for the parade I’ll be attending tomorrow with my daughters, I’m reminded why every detail matters. From the smallest Irish pennant to the alignment of ribbons and badges……none of it is just decoration.
Especially the dress blues. They are sacred ……because in our Corps, this is the uniform we bury our dead in. It’s the last uniform a grieving mother, a widow, or a child will ever see their loved one in. That’s why every time I have the honor of wearing it, it isn’t just pride……….it’s a RECOMMITMENT to the standards, to the basics, to the promise we make as Marines.
The respect we receive as Marines wasn’t earned by us. It was earned by our dead…….who gave everything, proving that we will keep our promise to America: to always be ready, to do the impossible, even if it’s at the cost of our lives.
