I just read an article that’s making waves in the housing industry. The U.S. Justice Department is accusing six major landlords of working together to keep rents high. If you haven’t seen it yet, here are the highlights:

Coordinated Price Setting: The lawsuit claims landlords used an algorithm to align rental prices instead of letting the market decide.

Shared Sensitive Data: Allegedly, they exchanged renewal rates, pricing strategies, and other private info to avoid lowering rents.

Impact on Renters: Half of U.S. renters spend over 30% of their income on rent and utilities, leading to tough choices and record evictions.
Legal Action: One landlord is cooperating, with restrictions proposed to limit the use of competitor data.

Industry Response: Some landlords deny the claims, blaming housing supply shortages instead.

FBI: A.I's Newest Methods is Targeting Consumers.
Online fraud is a significant issue. According to the FBI, consumers lost $12.5 billion to cybercrime fraud last year.
The FBI encourages people who believe they are victims of financial fraud schemes to file a report with the agency's Internet Crime Complaint Center.
The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is the central hub for reporting cyber-enabled crime. It is run by the FBI, the lead federal agency for investigating crime.

CALIFORNIA MARKET UPDATE
The Federal Reserve reduced its benchmark interest rate by 0.25%, bringing it to a range of 4.25%-4.5%, the third cut this year.
With economy resilient, the Fed may hold off further rate cuts, potentially delaying adjustments for several months.
The Federal Reserve's next meeting is scheduled for January 28-29, 2025
