If you ask me for my favorite beach in La Jolla, Windansea is always near the top of the list. 🌊

Part of it is personal. My kids love to surf here, and I can sit on the beach and keep an eye on them without feeling like they’re a mile away.

But even if you don’t surf, it’s hard not to appreciate this place.

The rock formations, the color of the water, the coastline... it feels like one of those spots that reminds you why people dream about living in Southern California.

And unlike some of the larger beaches, it has a little more character and a little less chaos.

Most of the time, anyway.

My one piece of advice? Avoid it on the Fourth of July unless you’re looking to relive your high school years. Maybe college, I don’t know how old they are but there are a lot of them.😅

The rest of the year, it’s one of the best spots in La Jolla to slow down and enjoy the coast.

One thing I see buyers do all the time is shop for the dream instead of shopping for their actual lifestyle.

Everyone wants the pool. The giant yard. The massive open floor plan.

Until they have to maintain it.

A pool sounds great until you’re paying for cleaning, repairs, utilities, and nobody is swimming in it.

A huge yard sounds amazing until you’re spending weekends maintaining space you barely use.

And those wide-open floor plans? They look incredible online, but if you have a busy family, sometimes you realize there’s nowhere to escape to.

The best home isn’t the one with the longest list of features.

It’s the one that fits how you actually live today and how you’ll live a few years from now.

That’s why I always tell buyers to stop thinking about what sounds good and start thinking about what they’ll actually use.

Why Ryan? Why now? Why SERHANT.?

Because real estate is evolving faster than ever, and San Diego is one of the most dynamic and competitive luxury markets in the country. The future belongs to those who are visible, AI-enabled, and willing to think bigger.

I’ve watched Ryan build something I deeply respect — not just a brokerage, but a media company that happens to sell real estate. The results speak for themselves.

What impressed me most wasn’t the growth. It was the vision.

What drew me to Ryan and SERHANT. was the belief that the future of this business isn’t about doing things the way they’ve always been done. It’s about creativity, innovation, content, technology, and creating opportunities for agents to thrive.

What excites me most is that this partnership doesn’t require sacrificing who we are.

Our culture stays intact. Our agents maintain their independence. The relationships we’ve built remain at the center of everything we do.

Most importantly, this is a win for our clients. Our sellers gain unmatched exposure through a global media platform. Our buyers gain access to a powerful network and opportunities beyond our local market. And every client benefits from the innovation, marketing, technology, and relationships that help us deliver an exceptional experience from start to finish.

What we gain is a national brand, a global referral network, world-class content production, cutting-edge AI infrastructure, and a partner who sees the future the way we do.

And I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.

Anyone else feel my pain? Having teenagers is basically a daily reminder that your definition of “strapped for cash” and their definition of “rich” are not even remotely close.

To them, grabbing takeout again sounds reasonable.

To me, I’m mentally calculating how many groceries were ignored at home first.

Bills. Insurance. Taxes. Mortgage payments. The thousand tiny expenses that show up every month whether you’re ready or not.

I think that perspective only comes with time.

But honestly, watching them slowly figure it out is pretty cool too. Adulting comes on fast and enjoying less responsibility while you can isn’t all bad either.

San Diego is not the cheapest place to live so teaching them how to manage funds early really is important if I want them to live close to mama.

Although I’m still debating whether unpaid parent loans should accrue interest.

One of my favorite parts of this job is the moment things stop feeling transactional.

At some point, clients stop feeling like “clients.”

The conversations get more real.

The walls come down a little.

Everybody relaxes.

And honestly, I think buying or selling a home almost forces that to happen because life gets involved so quickly.

Stress. Excitement. Family dynamics. Big decisions.

You go from talking about square footage and pricing to talking about real life pretty fast.

That’s usually when I know we’ve crossed over from formal to comfortable.

And weirdly, I love that part most.

It reminds me of when someone walks into your house and opens the fridge without asking. You know they feel at home there.

That’s kind of what the best client relationships feel like too.

Maybe it’s because summer is around the corner, but lately I’ve been a little obsessed with San Diego backyards. ☀️

I’ve toured enough homes to know that every family uses outdoor space differently. Some people want a pool. Some want a garden. Some just want enough room for kids, dogs, and a few friends running around on a summer afternoon.

As a mom, I’m always imagining real life. Where would we eat dinner outside? Where would the kids end up when their friends come over? Is this the backyard everyone naturally gathers in?

That’s why I love seeing the variety of backyards around San Diego. They’re all completely different, and each one tells a story about the family living there.

With summer around the corner, I have to ask... what’s your non-negotiable? Pool, view, outdoor kitchen, grass for the kids, or something else? 🌴

If you told my high school self I’d end up here, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.

🌴 Southern California?

🏘️ Real estate?

🤳 Talking in front of a camera?

Definitely not the plan.

I grew up in Montana and Michigan and was honestly pretty shy. I used to break out in hives before book reports because I hated speaking in front of people.

But looking back now, some of it actually makes sense.

My dad was a builder, and I loved being on job sites with him. Seeing homes come together, learning why things worked the way they did, watching something get built from the ground up.

And I think the Midwest work ethic stuck too.

Just keep working. Keep learning. Keep getting better.

Now here I am, standing in one of our remodel projects getting ready to bring it to market.

Life has a funny way of connecting the dots later.
