I’m not saying moving to San Diego is the right decision for everybody…

I’m just saying it was the right decision for our family, and here’s why.

But first, follow if you’re thinking about relocating to San Diego.

✅ Outdoor adventures. We’re outside all the time. This weekend we rode the coaster at Belmont Park, played mini golf, grabbed lunch at Draft, then spent the afternoon at the beach.

✅ The weather. Patio season isn’t a thing here. We can be outside year-round. Rarely too hot. Rarely too cold. Never humid.

✅ Family life. I came here for the epic single beach life but stayed for the family life. Balboa Park, the Zoo, Belmont Park, SeaWorld, Petco Park, water sports, East County lakes, hiking… there’s always something to do.

✅ City life. Incredible restaurants, diverse food, rooftop patios, concerts, sporting events, and sunsets over the Pacific. It’s not LA or NYC, but I’ll take the trade-offs every time.

✅ Living where people vacation never gets old. When our random Saturday looks like someone else’s vacation, I’m reminded how lucky we are to call San Diego home.

The biggest complaint I hear is what a $2M home buys here compared to where people are moving from.

And I get it.

If your top priority is a huge house in a perfectly polished neighborhood for under $3M, San Diego probably isn’t where I’d look first.

But if your priority is spending more time outside, raising active kids, hiking, biking, surfing, golfing, grabbing coffee on a patio in January, and loving where you live…

San Diego might be for you.

The first thing to figure out isn’t the house… it’s the neighborhood.

Here's the truth....I moved here almost 20 years ago from Los Angeles.

Like a lot of people, I came for the beach.

But what I fell in love with was the lifestyle.

Life is lived outside here.

Not just in the summer. All year.

Whether you're into hiking, biking, boating, golf, yoga by the bay, outdoor concerts, farmers markets, little league games, beach walks, cruising the boardwalk, or grabbing dinner on a patio, there is always something happening outside.

We don't really have a patio season in San Diego.

It's always patio season.

And while the weather isn't dramatically different from LA, the lifestyle absolutely is.

People here actually take advantage of it.

The outdoors isn't something you visit on the weekends.

It's woven into everyday life.

As much as I loved that when I moved here as a single woman in my twenties, I appreciate it even more now as a mom.

Because now my kids get to grow up with it.

Our weekends are spent hiking Mission Trails, boating in Mission Bay, grabbing breakfast outside, walking farmers markets, an afternoon at Sea World, Padres games, outdoor concerts, San Diego Zoo, strolling Seaport Village and grabbing dinner at sunset, beach days, and soaking up everything this city has to offer.

And every once in a while it hits me...

What feels normal to us is what people spend thousands of dollars to experience on vacation.

That's why when people ask what it's like to live in San Diego, I rarely start by talking about the houses.

Because it's not really about the house.

It's about the life you're building around it.

The house is simply the place you come home to after a day well-lived.
