The Seaport San Diego team was proud to roll up our sleeves over the weekend for Operation Clean Sweep, the San Diego Working Waterfront’s annual baywide cleanup.

We joined volunteers from across the waterfront to help care for San Diego Bay and the communities that surround it. Thanks to everyone who came out and pitched in!

We’re honored to feature two amazing groups tackling the health of our coast and ocean life at large, Ocean Connectors & San Diego Coastkeeper 🐠🌊

San Diego Coastkeeper () is working to protect and restore swimmable, drinkable and fishable waters in San Diego County. They are actively making our coastline a better and cleaner place for all, humans and wildlife.

Ocean Connectors () aims to educate, inspire and connect youth in underserved coastal communities through the study of marine life. They’re activating the next generation of eco-soldiers to envision the solutions of the future.

How much do you know about Sumo Wrestling? Have you ever seen Sumo live? Now’s your chance to learn more about the ancient art at our Seaport San Diego Parks For All event this Saturday, 11am-2pm at Embarcadero Marina Park North.

Come see a live demonstration from 11am-1pm, presented by Christina Griffin Jones, Ji Jones, and Mengkin Ragan from Honu Sumo! The team started Honu Sumo to revitalize the practice to the community of San Diego.

Fun fact: Sumo is a Japanese practice that originated over 2,000 years ago. The practice was gaining in popularity in San Diego County until losing momentum from the events of World War 2. Honu Sumo aims to regain that momentum and bring the rich history & tradition of Sumo back to San Diego County!
