Here’s to all the Veterans that signed the dotted line. From my experience and that of my family and friends, joining the military not only comes with incredible experiences that push you in unimaginable ways, builds friendships as thick as blood but it’s also simply a lot of fun (machine guns, rockets, jumping out of planes and helicopters are fun). It also bears the immeasurable weight of war and trauma. Despite the fact that I spent most of my childhood and early adult life apart from my father who navigated his own battle with PTSD from years of war in Vietnam, I pursued war at every opportunity. To my blessing it wasn’t there for me. It was pre 9-11 and only limited hot spots had broken out. I was young and not fully aware of who I was.
Fast forward I now know a few things about myself, one being I’m too sensitive. I may not have recovered from what many others in my family and many good friends experienced others have done at war. So on this Veteran’s Day think of those that signed the line, those that did the work and those pursuing endless efforts to support the Veteran community and change how we treat mental heath and our Veteran community at large.
is one of those organizations that has put it all on the line to make theses changes. So today we honor them as well!
And remember free drinks in Uncle Sam, save those receipts ;)
