Hello to chapter 37.
2026 has been my darkest year, so I am ready for the next sunrise. I’m looking ahead with gratitude for the things I’ve come to realize. How quickly things can shift, good or bad. How even in heartache, you can choose to find something meaningful. That grief will always walk alongside you once it shatters the path you thought was clear and predictable. Despite this, with time, grief’s presence becomes less commanding, less dominant - and sometimes it might even step aside long enough to let joyful memories have the spotlight.
I’m in one of the hard seasons of life, but I have the best company to help me light the way forward. Some of the things I’m most thankful for: I got to have 27 years with my stepdad in my life, who filled my childhood with unconditional love, fun, travel, beaches, and made my mom the happiest. I’ve become extremely close to my dad and watched him overcome multiple life-threatening illnesses, with comebacks that have seemed nearly impossible - nothing short of a miracle. I cherish all of my parents and stepparents and feel so blessed that they are a part of what makes me, me.
I have the greatest friends, who have helped me stand tall when I wanted to crumble. Who have been with me through the saddest moments of my life and filled my cup with encouragement, compassion, and understanding. I truly could not have asked for better friends, and every day I know how lucky I am. From Denver, to Rhode Island, to North Carolina, to San Diego, I have lifelong friends in different places. I have two dogs that are absolutely perfect for me, who fill my days with peace, affection, and comfort. I love the city that I live in and the city that I’m from.
I’ve realized that the older you get, the faster time flies. It’s worth the extra trip, the phone call when you’re tired, or the check-in text when it comes to the people you love. I’ve learned not to take health for granted, because things can change so quickly. Live in the moment and appreciate the minutes as much as the hours. (Continued in comments)
