Moving doesn’t automatically mean you should sell your current home.
Sometimes, keeping it as a rental can be the better long-term strategy.
But before you make that decision, you need to look beyond one number: the monthly rent.
What could the property realistically rent for? What will you spend on maintenance, vacancy, financing, insurance, property management, and other operating expenses? And just as importantly—do you actually want the responsibilities that come with being a landlord?
As real estate brokers and property managers, we help homeowners evaluate both sides of the decision before they move.
Sell the property and use the equity elsewhere?
Or keep it, rent it out, and potentially build a long-term investment?
There’s no universal answer. The right move comes down to your property, your numbers, and your goals.
