So Prop 19 came out and it’s a win for homeowners who are over 55 to transfer their primary residence property tax to a replacement residence of any value and anywhere in the state.

Here are 4 things you need to know about it.
1. Homeowners will need to file new paperwork to apply for the Prop 19 property tax exemption after completing their transaction.
2. The replacement property must be purchased within two years of the sale of the original property.
3. If one half of the transaction took place before April 1, 2021, the transaction may still qualify for Prop 19 benefits.
4. Last but not least, check with a qualified state attorney to see how it affects your specific tax situation.
