Last week we caught the last film of the season's Silent Movie Mondays at the Balboa, "Safety Last!", starring Harold Lloyd. The film's famous scene is him hanging off of a clock from a tall building in downtown Los Angeles in 1923. The film series has found it's audience as there wew a lot of people attending. Season 3 starts in September, expanding to seven nights. The last photo shows the program for the next season.

After we had lunch at The Henry, we crossed tge street to see a matinee performance of "The Play That Goes Wrong", a comedy of a play within a play. A very physical comedy (think "Noises Off"), this fast moving and funny show was a sight to be seen as the cast had to be agile and aware of their surroundings as the set was almost incorporated as one of show's characters. The cast was stellar, showcasing some of San Diego's best actors.

We saw a great production of "The Sound of Music" at the Civic a couple of weeks ago. Presented by Broadway San Diego, this is a fantastic touring production directed by Jack O'Brien. We saw it on a Wed. evening, and it was very well sold. It was great bumping into a lot of people we know!

Part 1, Another great May event, the La Jolla Historical Society's 27th Annual Secret Garden Tour. The check-in was at the Society, which was buzzing with activity. Stops for the gardens were Ludington Place, Pearl Street, Via del Norte, Vista de la Mesa, Waverly Avenue and Belloc Court. All of the gardens were unique!

Another event we attended in mid-May was a wonderful birthday concert performed by the birthday boy himself, Walter DuMelle. The concert was an official event of Bodhi Tree Concerts (performed at St. James by-the-Sea), which Walter is a co-founder. There was a wonderful reception following.

Catching up on posts... St. James Music Series wound up it's season in mid -May by presenting the San Francisco based singing ensemble Chanticleer. They did a program that spanned from choral music of the Spanish Colonial period to contemporary American compositions. Looking forward to the the next season that begins in the fall!

Day 2 of the 31st Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, aka Bookchella. The day started with a panel of authors who have written books about unknown people who made a incredible efforts to win World War II. I also had a chance to get to the KUSC tent where LA Opera Connects were presenting two singers from LA Opera. More panels in the afternoon that included an upcoming episode of "The Testaments" on Hulu, followed by a conversation with Margaret Atwood (virtually) and showrunner Bruce Miller. We all received a free copy of her book!
