This divorce real estate mistake can follow you long after the divorce is final. ⚠️

San Diego real estate agents working with divorcing homeowners often see one major issue overlooked: the deed and the mortgage are two completely different things. 🏠

The deed determines ownership of the property. The mortgage determines responsibility for the loan.

Removing one spouse from the deed does not automatically remove that person from the mortgage. And even if the divorce agreement says one spouse will make the payments, that does not necessarily release the other spouse from their obligation to the lender. ⚠️

For anyone navigating San Diego real estate during divorce, this needs to be addressed before deciding who keeps the home.
