We were incredibly honored to have several of San Francisco’s civic leaders join us in celebrating Coldwell Banker Realty’s 120th Anniversary in the city where our company was founded.

A heartfelt thank you to Assessor-Recorder JoaquĂ­n Torres, Board of Supervisors President Rafael Mandelman, Supervisor Connie Chan, and Supervisor Alan Wong for joining us, sharing remarks, and each presenting special Certificates of Honor and recognition commemorating our 120 year San Francisco legacy.

We were also deeply honored to receive special recognition from State Senator Scott Wiener’s office, including certificates and a Senate Resolution recognizing this important milestone.

These recognitions mean so much to our agents and leadership. Coldwell Banker was founded in San Francisco in 1906, and 120 years later, we remain incredibly proud to serve this city, its neighborhoods, and its communities.

Could your 3% mortgage one day move with you?

Washington is exploring the concept of “portable mortgages” as one potential way to address the mortgage lock in effect the millions of homeowners who may want to move but don’t want to give up their historically low interest rates.

The idea sounds compelling: sell your current home, purchase another, and potentially carry certain existing mortgage terms with you. But an important clarification….the proposed Take Your Rate Act of 2026 does not create portable mortgages. It calls for studying the feasibility and potential impact of the concept.

And there are potential downsides. Portability could increase buyer demand without solving the underlying housing shortage, potentially putting additional pressure on prices. It could create an advantage for existing homeowners over first time buyers, affect the pricing of future mortgages, and introduce additional complexity into the mortgage market.

Could it eventually help unlock some much needed housing inventory? Possibly. But it's not a magic solution, and it's not available today.

For real estate professionals, this is exactly why staying informed matters. Our role isn't to sell the headline or predict policy it's to understand the conversations shaping housing, educate our clients on both the opportunities and risks, and be prepared for what comes next.
