In 1936, the City added a retaining wall and terrace stairs that opened this hillside for development, and homes on the cul-de-sac were built between 1937 and 1950. Nearly 90 years later, one of them is open to the studs and steel, still standing alongside its neighbors.

A hidden, library-inspired w**e room became the hosting space the homeowners dreamed of. A custom-built swing bookshelf door, built to support a full load of books, opens into the below-grade space, where a hallway with built-in spirit storage leads to the main area, with a game table, wet bar, and walk-in w**e cellar. 🍷
LED lighting creates a cinematic atmosphere.

Meet Bill Gocke, Project Superintendent at FORMA.

Bill grew up in San Jose and came to construction as a young father looking for a way to support his family. He quickly found a passion for building, and it drove him to keep learning and work his way up to management. Today he brings more than 35 years of building experience to FORMA, 30 of them as a project superintendent. Ask him about the FORMA vibe, and he'll tell you: motivation, growth, encouragement, and self-responsibility.

Outside of work, Bill stays active with snowboarding and mountain biking, heads to the beach or the mountains to recharge, and never misses a chance at a good karaoke night! One thing his coworkers might not know: he and his wife are both musicians.

At , the primary suite carries the home's material palette straight through to where the day ends. A wood-clad ceiling runs the length of the room, a stone fireplace anchors the seating area, and floor-to-ceiling glass frames the surrounding pines. In the primary bath, a freestanding tub sits in front of that same view.

FORMA has won SILVER for our Potrero Bathroom Renovation with Heidi Kim in the , presented by .

This full gut renovation in San Francisco stripped away all existing finishes and reset the room's function, privacy, and aesthetic character. The plumbing layout was largely preserved to control costs, with one exception: the toilet moved from its exposed position at the room's entry into a new enclosed water closet, created by converting one end of the oversized two-headed shower.

Calacatta marble mosaic floor tile, limewash paint on the walls and ceiling, and rich walnut millwork bring a sense of craft and history to a contemporary home. Sheer alpaca and linen drapery replaced wood slatted screens behind the freestanding tub, introducing softness and movement.

FORMA has won GOLD for Residential Specialty in the , presented by , for the .

No above-grade volume was permitted on the historic property, so the new room is fully subterranean, sitting six feet below the adjacent entry level. To protect the existing house, the fully concrete structure required soil grouting and seismic underpinning to thirty feet.

A custom swing bookshelf door, built to support a full load of books, opens into the hidden, library-inspired space. A hallway with built-in spirits storage leads to the main room, with a game table, wet bar, and walk-in w**e cellar. LED lighting creates a cinematic atmosphere.

FORMA has won GOLD for Residential Interiors in the , presented by , for the .

The gut renovation of a penthouse apartment in San Francisco meant craning 350 tons of material through one 18-square-foot window. All millwork, cabinetry, and stone elements were pre-cut off-site to the maximum passable dimension and reassembled on-site to finished spec.

Attic expansion raised the ceilings from nine to ten feet without altering the 1926 building's roofline. The team upgraded all MEP systems and installed European oak chevron floors, custom millwork, and dedicated gallery wall space for the owner's collection.
