On the 12-foot kitchen island at the , a traditional mitered edge on the marble countertop's radius curve would have been difficult and expensive to fabricate at this scale, and a single slab of marble alone would have read as too thin for an island this size.

Interior Designer Heidi Kim's solution came from an unlikely place: the sub-top, normally a hidden structural layer that just supports the counter material. Here, it was thickened and clad in bronze, the same material used on the cabinetry above the range, giving the marble visual weight and avoiding the miter altogether.

At the , imported Jerusalem stone and an angled Western Red Cedar overhang define the entry approach in two very different lights.

By day, the stone's rough, hand-hewn texture sets the tone against the smooth grain of the cedar soffit above, with a stepping-stone path leading past fern plantings to the front door. At dusk, recessed lighting built into the cedar ceiling and low path lights along the walkway pick up the stone's deep-set reveals, casting long shadows across the textured surface and turning the same facade warm and layered after dark.

New project update!
FORMA Construction is thrilled to be partnering with on a new ground-up residence in Old Palo Alto.

The 7,500-square-foot lot currently has a single-story home built in 1939 that has fallen into disrepair. The existing structure will be demolished to make way for a new modern home, with design work currently underway with EYRC.

Ever wonder what a project like this actually takes? This penthouse sits atop a 1926 building designed by Samuel Lightner Hyman, and FORMA took it down to the studs and rebuilt every system from the ground up. There's no functional elevator access, so more than 350 tons of material moved in and out through a single 5-foot by 3.5-foot window, craned piece by piece from the street below.

What you're looking at here is one small piece of that process: the kitchen, framed out and finished. There's a lot more to this build, and we'll be sharing it soon... More to come!!

Excavation for the new pool at is complete, and formwork is underway. Rebar reinforcement is tied in along the walls and floor, and the crew is building out the plywood forms that will hold the pour. It's tight, deliberate work in a hedge-lined side yard, with tools and ladders staged directly in the pit as each wall section comes together.
