California housing market closes the year strong despite challenges.

As clouds of smoke shroud the LA skyline, REALTOR® Tisha Janigian turned her nonprofit, SHE IS HOPE LA, into a triage zone for wildfire victims. Located just up the street from a mandatory evacuation zone, Janigian and a team of volunteers are distributing hygiene kits, clothing and food and identifying housing options for evacuees through local shelters, churches, hotels, and RV rentals.

“The shelters quickly filled up,” Janigian says, realizing housing will become a critical issue. Janigian, a 2024 Good Neighbor Awards finalist, typically helps to rebuild the lives of single mothers. “Just like the single families we help when they’re in survival mode, they don’t know where to go for help. That’s what we’re trying to do here—let people know where they can go for help.”
