The Incredible Versatility of Classical Scale

FrenchCALIFORNIA’s design for the two-bedroom Ansel Residence showcases the versatility of Robert A.M Stern Architects’ classical layouts. The voluminous scale of each room allows it to be configured for a multitude of uses. The living room features a comfortable, light-filled lounge, a breakfast area, and a conversation salon while the master bedroom offers a home office and a seating vignette.

We invite you to preview this residence presented as a part of the Crescent Design Showcase.

The art-filled arrival.

With an appreciation for pre-war layout design, Robert A.M. Stern Architects carefully configured the entry vignette for each residence. Many homes feature formal entry foyers with a gallery wall or an architecturally curved niche, ideal for displaying art, leading to an open living and dining room.

The Robert Penthouse design story as told by .ca.

"When we first walked through the space, it really reminded me of my childhood in Paris. In designing the Crescent Penthouse residence, we really wanted to complement the architecture and to emphase the iconic classical details."

Experience the brilliance of transitional design at Crescent.
As you proceed from the jewel-box lobby to descend to the sunroom, transformed the space with light wood walls to create a sense of warmth, intimacy, and a dramatic reveal.

Just a short stroll away from Crescent—Union Square is one of the premier luxury retail destinations in the world—comparable to The Ginza in Tokyo; Fifth, 57th, and Madison Avenue in New York City; Rue de St. Honoré in Paris; and New Bond Street in London.

Lined with West Coast flagships for such global luxury Maisons as Hermès, Chanel, Valentino, Gucci, and Christian Dior, among numerous others, Union Square represents the beating heart of San Francisco and the style-filled escape from the everyday.

Lunch at The Rotunda is an experience in the league of its own. It's the closest thing San Francisco can offer to the most fashionable meal in town. Bergdorf Goodman Restaurant with Central Park views, anyone? Except, this space is more awe-inspiring and controversial (naturally) in its architectural history.

Though the beloved City of Paris Department Store building was replaced with circa 1980s structure by the famed New York modernist Philip Johnson, the exquisite oval rotunda topped by a stained-glass dome has been preserved for generations to marvel.

A short stroll from Crescent, a visit to The Rotunda is filled with guilty pleasures—fresh popovers (with strawberry butter) served with hot bone broth and a flute of bubbly.

From the portfolio of work of Champalimaud Design—the extraordinary team behind Crescent interiors.

Anyone who’s familiar with Raffles Hotel Singapore knows that its magic lies within its walls, its corners, and in the stories that fill them. Over the past six years, Champalimaud Design has meticulously updated the iconic hotel—drawing out the essence of the building through a series of honest, creative decisions and notable details.

Celebrating the hotel’s literary pedigree, the world-renowned lobby establishment Writer’s Bar was designed to celebrate the distinguished writers (Ernest Hemingway, W. Somerset Maugham, and Rudyard Kipling. among others) who frequented the hotel and have been inspired by it in their works.

Robert A.M. Stern on Crescent Nob Hill:

“The best residential buildings are rooted in classical principles
and a deep understanding of how people want to live. I was thrilled to be given this opportunity to build on Nob Hill. This site gave us the chance to connect to the wonderful Art Deco-inflected Classicism that abounds in the neighborhood, working with traditional ideas and interpreting them in fresh new ways."

FIRST LOOK: New Model Residence
Penthouse No. 3

Robert A.M. Stern Architects arranged the layout of the primary bedroom suite to act as a separate wing of the residence. Accessed via a private gallery, the bedroom experience presents an unexpected reveal of a perfectly proportioned space complete with its own private terrace —bathed in magical light throughout the day.

To visually emphasize the architect's vision, Guillaume Coutheillas of Design studio french CALIFORNIA curated rarefied, avant-garde pieces both to showcase and expand on the visual language of space. The iconic Christophe Delcourt's Hug Bed — paired with the brand's sculptural OVO stand — is a study in sensual curvature and materiality. The tongue-in-cheek Copy Cat light sculptures by Michael Anastassiades complete the vision of chic and livable high style. frenchCALIFORNIA's founder commissioned San Francisco-based to create a selection of custom wall colors available exclusively to Crescent Nob Hill buyers.
