Everyone says Bernal Heights is “that hill with the great view” and sure, it totally is, but there’s more to this cute little neighborhood than what meets the eye.
Bernal Hill Park sits right at the center with 360 views of the whole city and an off-leash dog area that basically doubles as a community hangout. Just down the hill, Cortland Ave is the neighborhood’s backbone, featuring a few blocks of local shops, cafés, and restaurants that give Bernal that small-town feel in a big city. It’s quieter than the Mission, less touristy than the Marina, and still just a few minutes from 101 and 280 if you need to get downtown, to Potrero, or out of the city quickly.
It’s also one of the sunnier spots in the southern parts of SF, which if you’ve lived through enough Sunset/Richmond fog, you know is not nothing!
