It has been 20+ years since I lost my mother. I still miss her and I am eternally grateful to have had such a wonderful woman and strong role model in my life.
She was a quiet and unintentional pioneer being the 1st woman to serve on the board of trustees at our church, 1st UMC Portland, and one of the 1st women on our local real estate board. She sold homes to a mixed race couple in the 1960's and gay couples and ministers in the 1970's and 1980's.
She ALWAYS did the right thing. led by example and showed tough love when I needed it and unconditional love always.
I want to wish everyone a very Happy Mother's Day!! Whether your children have two legs, or three or four (like several of mine), or even feathers or fins, I hope you can spend time with people and creatures you love and who love you.
