November is National Diabetes month and TODAY is National Diabetes Day! If you didn’t already know, I have Type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed at age 9. I wear an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor 24/7 for life support! I try not to let it interfere with my life, sometimes I can’t control it. Diabetes has made me a STRONG, FIERCELY INDEPENDENT, AND DILIGENT woman and I feel if I can handle having T1D, I can face anything life throws at me!

Here are a few facts and myths to help you understand what DIABETES WARRIORS go through every single second of every single day, even while sleeping!
💪 T1D is NOT caused by lifestyle, it is often a genetic, autoimmune disease. However, my Brother and I BOTH have T1D with no family history
💪 it may look like diabetics don’t have to do a lot to manage their diabetes but that is FALSE! There is constant monitoring of blood sugar levels, counting carbs, guessing how to not go low or high from stress, exercise, lack of sleep, sickness etc. T1D is a FULL TIME JOB!
💪insulin’s is not a cure, it is LIFE SUPPORT. Without insulin, a person with T1D will die!
💪 we CAN eat whatever we want but it requires careful planning
💪sometimes candy is a lifesaving food! Low blood sugars can cause confusion, sweating, shakiness, seizures, vision changes, loss of consciousness and other symptoms! It is VERY SCARY!
💪THERE IS CURRENTLY NO CURE

💪if you know a person with T1D, congratulate them for being brave, diligent, consistent, and committed to being as healthy as possible while facing a terrifying, life altering, constant challenge🙌
