OCTOBER HAPPY FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH: In my lifetime It's taken 60 years for acceptance or if you will, gain in mainstream American acceptance, thus Filipino History Month. Locally, on October 18, 1587 Filipino American History Month is celebrated in the United States during the month of October, commemorating the first recorded arrival of Filipinos on the land that is now the continental United States on October 18, 1587, by way of a Spanish galleon, that docked at what is now Morro Bay, California.
In 1763, Filipino sailors settled in a Louisiana bayou, and became the first Filipino immigrants to settle in the United States, known as “Manilamen.” Along with enslaved people and other people of color, the Filipino immigrants built a small fishing village called Saint Malo. The Manilamen made many contributions including revolutionizing the sh*****ng industry.
Like all the AAPI Asian American Pacific Islanders their contribution to integrate and help America be great needs to be recognized. Immigrants came for a better life and helped to build America in that vein. Let their work and contribution not be in vain, but in respect and love for the blood, sweat, and tears to achieve the American Dream of Freedom cheers.
