Named for chef Laura Ozyilmaz’s mother and sister, Maria Isabel is more than another new restaurant—it is a personal tribute expressed through food.

At 500 Presidio Avenue, the menu explores Laura’s connections to Guerrero and Sinaloa. Expect coastal seafood, house-made heirloom masa and richly layered moles, including the standout ceviche Acapulqueño.

The drinks deserve equal attention. Maria Isabel received Michelin’s 2026 Exceptional Cocktails Award for a creative program featuring Mexican spirits beyond the familiar tequila and mezcal.

The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday from 5–9 p.m. Reservations are released 30 days in advance, although limited walk-in seating may be available.

Would Maria Isabel make your special-occasion list?

There is something unforgettable about hearing live piano music surrounded by redwoods, flowers, and winding garden paths. 🎹🌿

Flower Piano returns to the San Francisco Botanical Garden from September 10–20, 2026. Across the Garden’s 55 acres, visitors can discover 12 pianos, approximately 130 performers and ensembles, and music ranging from classical and jazz to Latin, tango, blues, and cabaret.

You may even sit down and play when a piano is available. General festival programming is included with regular Garden admission, and San Francisco residents enter free with proof of residency. The ticketed Flower Piano Lounge is separate.

For the complete schedule, admission details, and visitor tips, read the full blog on my website. I’ll place the direct link in the comments.

Pier 70 may soon look very different. 🌉

Elevation Sky Park plans to turn part of the Dogpatch waterfront into an immersive destination with projection domes, live entertainment, visual art and community programming.

The public gets its first preview during Pier Play on September 19 from 2–10 p.m. However, this is an outdoor festival at the future venue site—not the grand opening of the completed domes.

San Francisco’s technology story is changing again—this time inside one of SoMa’s largest office buildings.

Cognition, the company behind the AI coding agent Devin, has agreed to sublease Cruise’s former 180,000-square-foot office at 333 Brannan Street for 5 years. Cognition currently occupies about 25,000 square feet nearby, making this a major expansion of its San Francisco presence.

The building once represented the city’s fast-growing robotaxi industry. Now, it may become a symbol of the AI companies driving renewed demand for office space.

San Francisco still has a long road ahead, but filling a property of this size is difficult to overlook.

Do you think AI will lead SoMa’s next chapter?

🏡 What could signal where mortgage rates may be heading next?

For more than 50 years, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate has generally followed the movement of the 10-year Treasury yield. The two rates are not identical, but this long-term relationship helps explain why changes in the bond market matter to homebuyers and homeowners.

If interest rates have delayed your plans to buy, sell, or downsize, it may be worth reviewing your options based on today’s San Francisco market—not waiting for a “perfect” rate that may never arrive.

Have mortgage rates changed your real estate plans? Share your thoughts below.

A piece of San Francisco’s industrial past is getting a remarkable new chapter.

Built in 1922 as a Southern Pacific Railroad shipping hub, the historic Wharfside Building once handled bananas and other produce arriving through the Port of San Francisco. Beginning September 9, it will welcome visitors as Sergeant Ma—a new waterfront destination at 185 Berry Street.

The restaurant will combine Mission Creek views with a 4,000-square-foot patio, 5 fire pits and an 18-foot indoor tree. Its menu draws from chef Jason Halverson’s Chinese and Vietnamese heritage, while cocktails such as the Banana Depot recall the building’s history.

Is this the kind of historic transformation San Francisco needs more of?
