The buyers who lose the house are often the ones who loved it the most.

Not because they couldn’t afford it.
Not because they lost a bidding war.
Because they convinced themselves there might be something better.
I’ve seen this happen for decades.

And not just in real estate.

Sometimes the search for perfect costs us something that was already great.

Everyone thinks it’s about money.

But after more than 30 years helping families buy and sell homes, I’ve noticed something else.
A lot of people aren’t moving farther from Silicon Valley because they want a cheaper house.
They’re moving because they want more room to live.
A home office.
A backyard.
Space for family.
Space to breathe.

Whether you agree or disagree, I’m curious:
What would make you leave Silicon Valley?

Some Bay Area buyers are starting to rethink what homeownership can look like.
Because $760K buys very differently in Tracy.
Nearly 2,700 sq ft.
4 bedrooms + den.
Paid solar.
Tesla charger.
And the kind of space that’s becoming harder to find closer to Silicon Valley.
The question isn’t whether Tracy is better.
It’s whether this lifestyle fits your family.
Would you make this move?

One of the biggest mistakes I see first-time homebuyers make is waiting for the “perfect” home.
In my experience, most people who built wealth through real estate didn’t start with their dream home.
They started with a home they could afford, then used it as a stepping stone to the next one.
Your first home doesn’t have to be your forever home.
It may just need to be your first step.

Do you agree, or do you think buyers should wait until they can afford their forever home?
