Here’s to adding high quality affordable housing in San Jose directly next to transit! Last week, the Core Companies announced the closing of financing on its project to bring 135 units of affordable housing adjacent to Tamien Station, with up to 3,000 square feet of commercial space programmed for a future daycare facility. We want to thank the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and Republic Urban Properties for helping make this project a reality and to all our funding partners for helping us continue our extensive history of housing Silicon Valley’s workforce. We’re excited to see the project break ground this month!

The Core Companies is building homes for homeless veterans in West L.A.!

Today, we celebrated the groundbreaking of MacArthur Field A, the first of a two-phase project to build 74 units of permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless and disabled veterans in partnership with the .S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Thank you to all our funding partners for helping us transform the site and deliver homes to those who have served our country.

For 40 years, developer The Core Companies has focused on creating affordable housing for a broad range of community needs. Over the years, they have partnered with nonprofits and property management firms to merge senior and low to moderate income (LMI) housing and market-rate rentals with sustainability models to create vibrant new communities in urban locations.

Agrihood, a mixed-use project located near Santana Row in Santa Clara, includes 165 units of affordable senior housing, 160 market-rate apartments, 36 townhomes and an urban farm. This Core Companies project offers a range of affordability levels to meet the housing needs of seniors, senior veterans, and first-time homebuyers, in an innovative setting. Agrihood puts Santa Clara on the map as a leader in smart urban development.

Before Agrihood broke ground in 2021, the project was in the works for 7 years. The process brought numerous government and private sector partnerships together, including the City and County of Santa Clara. Santa Cruz County Bank provided lending and played a vital role in coordinating stakeholders to move the project forward. Chris Neale, President of The Core Companies, says “Santa Cruz County Bank was key in the creation of this project. To make all of this possible took vision, communication, partnership and the ability to identify and coordinate everything needed.”

In recognition of Agrihood, in 2022 The Core Companies was named the Environmental Business of the Year by the Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters.

This summer, 165 affordable apartments for seniors will become available at Agrihood. Since its inception in 1989, Core has developed more than 580 single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums, as well as 5,400 apartment units, all within the South Bay region.

Chris adds “The Core Companies has always been drawn to community banks for their vision, involvement, role in, and understanding of community building. Santa Cruz County Bank made an exceptionally complex project simple because they understand and help execute our vision. The Bank was key in the creation of this project. Agrihood would not have been possible without SCCB.”

Few housing developers can say they’ve built a farm in the middle of a city, but we can😎 In honor of , we want to recognize our Agrihood project, Silicon Valley’s first-of-its-kind urban farm community for seniors, veterans, and other community members. This multigenerational affordable housing project in the of Santa Clara was decades in the making and is now taking applications for its 164 senior affordable units. Proud moment with our great partnerships Republic Urban Properties!!

“Tamien Station is truly a community-defining project." We couldn't agree more, Vince Cantore (vice president of development with Core Companies). This transportation-oriented development with 135 affordable apartment units and 420 market-rate units will be an added benefit to the community and commuters. Today CORE had our Annual New Year’s Kick-Off Brunch at the Silicon Valley Capital Club and there are lots of exciting things happening!✨

📣 We are thrilled to announce the promotion of Chrissie Davis to President of CORE Builders. Chrissie has been with the company for almost 13 years and has proven herself to be a true leader. Another well-deserved promotion went to Louis Macedo as Vice President. Louis has been instrumental in the company’s success. These two are the dynamic duo with the leadership of David Neale. Speaking of David, we got to wish him the best as he celebrates a milestone birthday this year.🎉

This week we also welcomed THREE new employees so 2023 is starting off with a bang! Can’t wait to see the continued success and growth this year brings for CORE!👏
