Every October, my neighborhood declared a winner. The guy with the thickest tarp.
Nobody ever won.
I was maybe 14 when I understood the ritual. B**r. The Homebase run. Arguments over mil thickness. Then six guys on a roof, in the dark, nailing blue plastic over whatever the summer left behind.
Come June, nobody went up to take it down.
Torn, bleached, held on by two corners and a prayer. Still there through the Carne Asadas. Still there through the next October. Sometimes through the next tarp.
The guy who bought the thickest one still had the weakest roof.
I didnt understand it then. I get it now.
The tarp wasnt a fix. It was a handshake with the problem. A way to say "we handled it" when you havent.
Over 3.5 million square feet of roofing at Indaspec. I still see the commercial version of this all the time.
Patch. Caulk. Wrap it. Call it good.
So. Are you buying tarps this year?
