Oil price shot up to its highest prices since 2023—climbing steeply as the Iran war fuels fears of supply disruptions; and the impact has quickly shown up at the pump. The national average for regular gas surged 34 cents a gallon in five days. The key Employment report revealed that the economy shockingly lost 92,000 jobs in February—when the expectation was for a gain of 50,000. Some of the best performing stocks in 2026 took dives that were triggered by concerns of a long and drawn out war in the Middle East..

WHAT CITY HAS THE LEAST AFFORDABLE HOUSING MARKET ON THE PLANET?
A new analysis of home price affordably found that the city with the least affordable housing market in the world is San Jose, California. (Reported by Fox News) . With sky high prices, even for modest sized properties, many buyers struggle to afford a home of their own-- despite strong local incomes. The tax avoidance of these four companies alone blew a $51 billion hole in the federal budget last year.

HIGHEST NUMBER OF JANUARY LAYOFFS REPORTED SINCE JANUARY 2009
US-based employers announced 108,435 job cuts in January 2026, a threefold increase from layoff announcements in December and more than double what was tallied in January a year earlier, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas’ report. It is the highest layoffs since January 2009. About 40% of January’s layoff announcements can be tied to two firms: Amazon and UPS, which outlined plans for 16,000 and 30,000 job cuts, respectively.

Single family homes sold in 2025 ended a tick upward from 2024. Average days on market in 2025 to obtain a sale were only 3 days longer than 2024.The current inventory at the end of 2024 was 307 homes; and in 2025, it was 376 homes. However, new listings in 2025 were reduced to 9,533 as opposed to 9,826 in 2024. There was a slight softening in median sold prices for condos and townhomes; but the broader market remains tight. Limited supply combined with steady demand continues to favor sellers, keeping pricing solidified across much of Silicon Valley.

U.S ECONOMY REMAINS STRONG WITH SOME VULNERABILITY

The U.S. economy continued to expand in 2025, with third-quarter growth reaching its fastest pace in two years, supported by resilient consumer spending and business investment. However, underlying weaknesses persist: job growth remained sluggish and narrowly concentrated in healthcare, pushing unemployment up to 4.6%, its highest level since 2021. Although inflation has cooled from pandemic-era highs, elevated prices continue to strain household budgets and shape consumer concerns heading into 2026. Meanwhile, tariffs—now at their highest levels in nearly a century—generated substantial federal revenue but delivered mixed outcomes for business investment and failed to meaningfully improve the trade deficit, underscoring the uneven nature of the economic recovery.

US-- CHINA MEETING COULD BODE WELL FOR SILICON VALLEY

The recent October 2025 U.S.–China meeting may bode well for Silicon Valley, as China agreed to lift restrictions on rare earth mineral exports—materials essential for producing smartphones, computers, and advanced AI hardware. Given that China controls 70% of global rare earth mining, 90% of magnet production, and nearly half of global reserves, this move could ease supply chain constraints for U.S. tech firms. Additionally, China plans to engage directly with titan chip maker, Nvidia, signaling potential collaboration opportunities. The meeting also yielded broader economic benefits, including China’s commitment to purchase large volumes of U.S. agricultural products and a mutual easing of tariffs.

CALIFORNIA ECONOMY TAKES HEAVY HIT WITH 3.1 % REDUCED WORK FORCE

The shrinking workforce of immigrants has negatively impacted California’s economy by disrupting the labor force in ways reminiscent of the 2008 Great Recession, leading to lost wages and slower economic activity. Key sectors such as agriculture and hospitality have faced supply chain breakdowns, while local businesses report reduced foot traffic and schools see declining attendance. The broader consequence is a significant reduction in tax revenue and economic output, with estimates suggesting billions of dollars lost due to the restrictive immigrant operations.

A LAGGING JOB MARKET & SLOWER INFLATION HELP TRIGGER FED’S .25% INTEREST RATE CUT

Rate cut of .25% results in average mortgage rates of 6.17 %--down from 6.72% in 2024. The slowing job market and a softer than expected inflation rate eased the Federal Reserve’s decision to cut its federal funds rate by a quarter point after wrapping up its October meeting, bringing the benchmark rate down to a range of 3.75% to 4.00%, the lowest level since December 2022. This marks the Fed's second rate cut of 2025. Another possible cut is expected in December.

SILICON VALLEY MARKET STILL ROCKS—“Can’t Touch This!”
All is well in the real estate market of Silicon Valley. Properties are still selling over the asking price. There was a little bit of a slowdown in the number of days to get a sale, but the time frame was nothing significant. And yes; there are still competitive bidding wars going on that are continually ignited by the high income jobs generated by the tech sector and the AI boom. Interest rates were only kicked down .25 point; because inflation continues to be a nagging issue that is further agitated by tariff issues-- which are not going away immediately; thereby lowering the expectation that any drastic changes in interest rates will occur in the remainder of 2025.
