Isn't she gorgeous?! The Tribune Tower in Oakland is one of those landmarks that instantly says you are home.

Rising 22 stories and about 305 feet, the Tribune Tower began as a six-story building in 1906, then got its iconic Renaissance Revival tower addition in 1923, commissioned by publisher Joseph R. Knowland and designed by Edward T Foulkes. It officially opened as the Oakland Tribune headquarters on January 1, 1924, and was the second tallest building in Oakland at the time.

The design was inspired by St Mark’s Campanile in Venice and is often compared to the Campanile at UC Berkeley. Look up, and you will spot the four-sided clock and the electric sign that helped make it a true downtown beacon.

Fun Facts:
📻It housed the radio station KLX from 1922 to 1959
🎯It became an official Oakland landmark on May 4, 1976
🪄Houdini once performed an escape hanging from the 9th floor
