So grateful to get to work with the very best clients who I make every effort to ensure are the most knowledgeable players in the real estate market. If you’ve worked with me before, you know I really will write you a three page email about different valuation frameworks with bullets, highlights, and maps/charts/spreadsheets when called for! But it’s because of that exceedingly thorough prep that when it comes time for sellers with the most desirable homes to decide who to work with, the choice is easy to make: my clients!

Congratulations to my buyers who closed yesterday on a home that is one of the most meaningful deals I’ve had the pleasure to work on, it was most definitely worth the fire drill and late nights. Great way to end the week!

Sometimes folks are surprised when they find out how much time every year I dedicate to continuing education, whether that’s through classes or networking or research of new neighborhoods and developments that may not feel relevant for an immediate client. But in addition to just being fascinating for me (I love how interdisciplinary real estate is, benefitting from an understanding of business and economics of course, but also local zoning, tax policy, culture and lifestyle trends, design, construction, history, law, even geography and geology!), it is all in the name of being able to give not just the most honest, but also the most knowledgeable and informed opinion I possibly can when I get tapped on the shoulder for a consult.

This January a former colleague of mine from the tech world needed a trusted professional opinion on a project idea he had and after some back and forth and a few Ted Talk-length emails on my part, he updated me last week that he was able to make the right decision for his family thanks to my guidance. Little stories like these make all the effort worth it!

*PENDING* Congratulations to my incredibly deserving first-time homebuyers whose diligence and patience paid off with this beautiful home in an exceptional neighborhood in Burlingame. After a very thorough home search from SF to Burlingame, we finally found the place they’re both excited to make their long-term home. They definitely didn’t make it easy for me with a tall set of requirements 😁 , but I’m so proud we got there in the end, and getting it for under asking price with a full contingency period are the TWO cherries on top.

I had the most fun making this home sparkle for my sellers, carefully curating the home prep and marketing details on a very tight timeline to help buyers find and fall in love with the home before the holidays. But the hard work was worth it, we got multiple extremely strong offers all over asking on the home after just one week on market and officially closed escrow yesterday afternoon. Congratulations to the new buyers and thank you to the sellers for trusting me to lead this project for them!

Innovative Learning Conference 2023 hosted by the Nueva School in Hillsborough (Lower School) and San Mateo (Upper School)

Some clear themes and current issues schools and educators are grappling with today: AI, equity and belonging, and social-emotional learning (SEL). Also super impressed with the Nueva school’s huge focus on fostering their students’ agency vs having students who are just “doing” school, seemingly quite successfully! One other favorite line from the conference (unsubtly directed at the parents): how do we “prepare students for the path” as opposed to “preparing the path for students”.

After hearing so much about Nueva it was super interesting to finally see what it’s all about including via several classroom observations! And also inspiring to see passionate educators from schools across the Bay and the country get together to learn from one another!

Not everybody knows this about me but I am a big fan of public libraries (ask me about my favorites!) and a HUGE fan of public education. I am personally the product of Cupertino USD, Fremont UHSD, and UC Berkeley and even now I still take architecture and interior design classes when I can find time at West Valley Community College. Perhaps I may have taken the "Always a Student" motto at Clever (K-12 EdTech start-up) and Berkeley Haas a little too literally! But I genuinely believe the culture of investing in public education in the Bay Area is one of the secret ingredients that makes it so exceptional. So with the help of my clients this year and the San Mateo Foster City Community Education Foundation, I got to do something I'm super proud of: fund a new reading program in my local 3rd grade classrooms!

A bit more about the Rally Reader pilot: "Pilot program in conjunction with the program creator and a Stanford graduate student, will be at 2 elementary schools. The focus will be to allow students to choose age appropriate books and assist them in reading for meaning and fluency. Oftentimes schools stop focusing on reading by the 3rd grade as it is assumed the students are fluent readers by this age. This program was designed to help identify stumbling blocks and help mitigate them as the student is actively reading. This makes reading more meaningful and engaging for the student and can also help identify those that are not reading at grade level and will benefit from more support which will in turn help them with their other subjects. If the program is a success, we will look to have the school district fully fund it for all schools."
