🇺🇸 Last weekend, I took the ’55 Chevy up Highway 1, crossed the Golden Gate in the fog, and headed to Sonoma Plaza for the annual Bear Flag Celebration hosted by the Native Sons of the Golden West.
Many people don’t realize that the California Bear Flag was first raised right here in Sonoma on June 14, 1846. Each year, the old flag is lowered, a new one is raised, and the story behind this important moment in California history is shared with members and visitors alike.
The ceremony takes place in Sonoma State Historic Park, right in the heart of the historic plaza where the original California Bear Flag was first raised.
Afterward, everyone gathers for a traditional chicken barbecue, good conversation, and a chance to connect with California’s past.
Have you ever visited Sonoma Plaza or attended the Bear Flag Celebration?
