On Friday, July 17, SAMCAR YPN gathered volunteers to join the Pacific Beach Coalition (PBC) for a habitat restoration activity in Pacifica on the Rockaway Switchbacks, now known as the Lynn Adams Trail after previous PBC President.

The primary focus of the activity was to remove invasive species including wild carrot and wild mustard. Together, volunteers removed at least 100 pounds of green waste and tens of thousands of invasive seeds that would have otherwise spread.

According to naturalists with PBC, "[e]very invasive plant the group removed is an opportunity for a native plant to take hold, a local pollinator to thrive, and an ecosystem to better withstand the stresses of a changing climate."

The group was honored to have City of Pacifica Mayor Christine Boles and Councilmember Sue Beckmeyer greet volunteers to start the day and offer gratitude and encouragement for the hands-on work of protecting the ecosystems of the San Mateo County coast.

Many thanks to the Pacific Beach Coalition for organizing valuable opportunities to give back like this activity, and to the SAMCAR Board of Directors for supporting the activity with a generous contribution from SAMCAR's Community Engagement Fund.

📣Seeking Volunteers! 📅Friday, July 10 — SAMCAR YPN is seeking up to 25 volunteers to join the Pacific Beach Coalition for a beach cleanup and habitat restoration activity at Rockaway Beach in Pacifica. Our group will be guided by a naturalist during the cleanup activity focused around the coalition's mission of restoring coastline habitat, educating the public on local ecosystems, and removing waste from the ocean.
