In these winter days of heavy rain in the Bay Area, one of the top issues we discover during a home inspection is deficient roof drainage systems. Something as simple as ensuring a home's gutters/downspouts are cleaned of debris and that downspouts are draining 6 feet away from the foundation can avoid larger issues such as structural movement, foundation cracking, dry rotted siding, and water intrusion within a crawlspace. Before those rains start, clear those leaves from the gutter! Downspout extenders can also be found at a local hardware store for $15.
