Dogwood trees have long been a symbol of remembrance, making them a meaningful way to honor someone who has left a lasting mark on our lives.

This Dogwood was planted this summer by SMDC. As it grows and blooms each spring, we hope it brings a little beauty into someone's day 💙

Long before 709 West Washington became part of SMDC, it was home to the Overmyer-Zechman-Ball Company, which opened its doors in January 1926.

The large brick garage, located in the 700 block of West Washington between Lawrence and Fulton, was considered an “ultra-modern” garage for its time. The company sold and serviced Dodge Brothers cars and Graham Brothers trucks, with a large showroom facing Washington Street.

The building was designed by Sandusky architects Millott and Parker, with many local businesses helping bring the project to life.

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗠𝗗𝗖 🔎

Back in 2023, during the renovation of the space home to Marina Medical, we found a few vintage Blatz b**r cans tucked inside the walls.

The cans were empty, so apparently someone was enjoying a little “liquid lunch” on the job 🍺😂

You never know what you’ll find when you open up an old building!

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐎𝐑𝐒 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐌𝐃𝐂

📍 803 West Washington Street, Sandusky

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐍: According to Helen Hansen’s book, At Home in Early Sandusky, the materials and workmanship were “of the finest” quality when George Reber built this stone home around 1849. Reber was a prominent Sandusky attorney, and the home originally featured a large entrance hall and a cherry wood staircase.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘: This house caught our attention because it sits right next to our commercial property, where Marina Medical is now located. We’ve always loved the history and character of this little corner of Washington Street.

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬.

𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘: The home is now divided into six units and is home to six different families. The interior still has so much of the grandeur and character of the original home. We’re hoping to give the exterior a little love in the next year or two, so keep an eye out for that!

Our little lilac Georgia tree was planted behind our 803 Washington property in 2024. A little reminder that good things take time to grow.

Sometimes it's nice to slow down and appreciate the things we see every day.

Today, we're taking a minute to admire the beautiful floor tile work at Medical. It's one of those details that often goes unnoticed but adds so much character to the space and has had so many feet stepping on it over the years.
