🏡 Just moved into a new home? Before you start decorating, focus on the things that will make your house secure, functional, and truly feel like home.

🧼 Week 1: Deep Clean
Take advantage of the empty space while you can.

✔ Clean carpets and floors
✔ Wash windows
✔ Wipe down cabinets and drawers
✔ Consider having air ducts cleaned

A fresh start makes a huge difference.

🔐 Week 2: Secure the Home

✔ Rekey or replace locks
✔ Change garage and gate codes
✔ Update smart lock access
✔ Test smoke and CO detectors
✔ Check exterior lighting

You never know who may still have access from previous owners.

🔧 Week 3: Learn Your Home

✔ Locate the main water shut-off
✔ Find the electrical panel
✔ Test the HVAC system
✔ Run the sprinklers
✔ Check for plumbing leaks

Also, take photos and videos of every room and major appliance for insurance purposes.

📋 Week 4: Handle the Admin Tasks

✔ Update your address with the DMV, banks, insurance, and subscriptions
✔ Set up autopay where needed
✔ Add storage solutions that improve daily life

Most importantly, spend some time living in the home before making major cosmetic changes. Your priorities may change once you’re settled in.

🏡 Buying a home in Utah? There are a few things you might assume a seller has to tell you... but they actually don’t.

Some surprises can stay completely off the disclosure forms, including:

👻 If the home is rumored to be haunted

💔 If they’re selling because of a divorce

🚔 If a crime occurred nearby

😤 If they can’t stand the neighbors

💸 If they’re dealing with financial hardship and need to sell quickly

🏃 If they’re desperate to leave the neighborhood

⚰️ If someone passed away in the home

📍 If a registered s*x offender lives nearby

Crazy, right?

Many buyers are surprised to learn that Utah sellers are only required to disclose material defects—issues that could impact the property’s value, safety, or livability.

That means things like roof leaks, foundation problems, plumbing issues, or known structural defects must be disclosed.

But personal circumstances, neighborhood drama, local rumors, and stigmas? Those generally aren’t required disclosures under Utah law.
