One summer. 20,000 square feet. A beautiful campus ready for a new school year. 🏫

Our Charlotte team recently celebrated the completion of renovations to the Holy Trinity Catholic Academy's Administration and Bishop Begley buildings.

The project added new classrooms, restrooms and administrative spaces, updated technology and building systems, and created a new second floor within the former two-story media center.

With the full renovation completed during summer break, close coordination between the school, Little Architects, our trade partners and the project team kept the work moving toward one important deadline: welcoming students, faculty and staff back for the 2026–27 school year. 🎒✏️

For nearly a decade, the City of Fort Myers has been working toward a new home for the Fort Myers Police Department. This week, that vision officially moved from plans on paper to construction in the field.

The new headquarters will bring operations currently spread across multiple facilities under one roof, creating a modern, centralized home designed to support the department as Fort Myers continues to grow.

Its impact will reach beyond the building itself. The headquarters is also expected to become a cornerstone of the Midtown development area, helping support continued investment and redevelopment in the surrounding community.

Wharton-Smith is proud to join the City of Fort Myers, Fort Myers Police Department, Architects Design Group, Parker Mudgett Smith Architects, HJ High Construction and the many partners who brought the project to this milestone.

We’re proud to announce the promotion of Mike Alexakis to Executive Vice President of Operations.
Since joining Wharton-Smith as a Project Engineer Intern in 2006, Mike has continued to take on greater responsibility while helping lead our Water teams, strengthen our operations, and support the people behind our projects who are building what matters.
As we continue to grow, strong leadership and greater alignment across our operations are more important than ever. In his new role, Mike will help strengthen that foundation, creating greater leadership capacity while working across the company to share resources, best practices, and expertise.
Mike’s promotion reflects both the leader he has become and the confidence we have in his ability to help prepare for what’s ahead.

Six years of planning came down to one critical lift.

At JEA’s facility in Jacksonville, this massive drum is a key piece of the dryer system that turns wet material into pellets that can be repurposed as fertilizer rather than sent to a landfill.

Getting it into place was no small task. The drum traveled from Europe to Jacksonville, then had to be carefully maneuvered through tight quarters with cranes, riggers and crews working from a detailed installation plan.

For a project of this scale, the lift itself may only take a matter of hours. The preparation behind it takes years.

Twenty-five years later, September 11 remains a day to remember those we lost and recognize the first responders who continue showing up for their communities every day.

Today, our team delivered lunch to our local fire stations as a small gesture of appreciation for the men and women who answer the call every day.

Thank you to the crews who welcomed our teams, and to the first responders who continue to serve.

The Seminole County Criminal Justice Center Renovation is officially topped out. 🏗️

The structure is taking shape, and the project is moving one step closer to the finished facility Seminole County will rely on for years to come.

Topping out is a visible marker of all the coordination, sequencing and craftsmanship behind a project like this. Thank you to the project team and trade partners who helped bring it to this point.

Sometimes the biggest construction challenges call for a completely different approach.

At the Toho Reservoir Project, high groundwater and unsuitable soil conditions made a traditional open excavation impractical. So instead of digging first, the team is building the reservoir intake pump station at grade, then excavating from within the structure and allowing its own weight to gradually sink it into place.

Once it reaches its final depth, an underwater concrete slab will seal the bottom, allowing the station to be pumped dry and completed from the inside.

What looks like a highly technical construction process today will ultimately become critical infrastructure supporting the region’s reclaimed water needs for years to come.
