Under bright blue skies this morning, members of the Canbury Homes team were grateful to join our friends at Habitat for Humanity York County for the dedication of their newest affordable home - a home we were proud to help supply.

About 50 volunteers, staff, community partners, and City of Sanford representatives gathered to celebrate the milestone and welcome the new homeowner.

Habitat York County Board Chair Bill Southwick welcomed guests, while Executive Director Jeff Hassel thanked everyone who helped bring the home to completion - especially the volunteer building crew who kept the project moving during a staff transition. Recently retired Construction Manager John Roberts also returned to present the keys for the final home build he managed.

This marks Habitat York County’s 41st completed home and the latest in its Sanford Focus Area. Habitat will soon break ground on five additional affordable homes in Sanford. Two are already pre-sold, leaving three homeownership opportunities currently available.

If you’re dreaming of owning a home in York County but feel priced out of today’s market, Habitat York County is accepting applications through Friday, October 30, 2026. Applications are available at Partners Bank, Kennebunk Savings, Lighthouse Credit Union, and public libraries in Sanford, Biddeford, S**o, Kennebunk, and Old Orchard Beach, or online at habitatyorkcounty.org.

We’re always grateful for the opportunity to attend these dedications and see firsthand what can happen when homeowners, volunteers, community partners, and organizations like Habitat come together to create more attainable homeownership opportunities in our communities.

This ranch-style home features 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and 1,300 square feet of thoughtfully designed living space in a 48’ x 27’6” layout.

Inside, the home offers a spacious, sunshine-filled open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area - creating a comfortable flow for everyday living and easy entertaining. The kitchen includes a generous walk-in pantry, a center island, and a sliding glass door leading to the backyard.

The primary bedroom features a spacious closet and full ensuite bath, while the flexible third room can serve as either an office or guest room depending on the homeowner’s needs. A convenient side entrance includes a coat nook/drop zone, along with first-floor laundry for added functionality.

This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom ranch offers 1,766 square feet of well-planned living space in a 64’ x 27’6” design. The home features an open, comfortable layout with generous storage throughout, including a large walk-in pantry off the kitchen and a spacious island with room for four stools.

The primary bedroom includes a full ensuite bath and an impressive 12’ walk-in closet, while the laundry area is thoughtfully placed toward the rear of the home with basement stairs tucked nearby, along with a closet and laundry sink. The basement layout also offers great potential for future finished living space.

Outside, the attached two-car garage provides plenty of room and includes separate front and rear entrances for added convenience.

We’re looking forward to being part of the Maine ADU Housing Expo in Portland on Friday, May 15, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Abromson Center.

Maria Bennett, excavator operator for the day!

To celebrate Maria’s 1-year anniversary with Canbury Homes, we surprised her with the chance to cross something off her bucket list – getting behind the controls of one of our excavators at an active job site!

She had mentioned that she had always wanted to try running one, so we were happy to make it happen!

Maria does so much for our team behind the scenes, and we’re incredibly grateful for the positivity, dedication, and heart she brings to Canbury Homes every day. She is one of the people who helps make Canbury Homes such a special place to work, and this felt like a fun way to celebrate her.

Happy 1-year anniversary, Maria - and nice work on the excavator, too! Just don’t get any ideas about changing careers on us! 😜
