Another Week with Sunshine on Sanibel & Captiva

It is hardly worth mentioning, but Sanibel got its first shower of the rainy season yesterday morning. It was short and sweet, coming from rain clouds in the gulf rather than those that typically come in the afternoon from across the state. Hopefully, there will be more to come, though the forecast for next week looks like it is unlikely with daytime highs predicted to be mostly sunny high 80’s (degrees F), with less than 35% chance of rain....

It’s Still Sunshine & Roses on Sanibel Island

So much for the rainy season beginning on the islands. Like previous springs, afternoon showers have traveled over from the east coast, often giving Lee County a dousing. The joke here is that they can’t afford the bridge toll, so don’t come over the island. So, we are still waiting for a break in the drought. There were a handful of drops Wednesday evening, but otherwise, no rain here – or at least on Sanibel’s east end....

As more Sanibel and Captiva bright sunshiny days have continued, traffic is down considerably – an obvious sign that snowbirds are departing and visitor occupancy is down. That usually continues until summer vacations begin. Forecasters are predicting that Florida may receive some much-needed rain this weekend. They say the odds of showers here are 50% on Sunday. I sure hope you aren’t sick of reports about the wonderful weather on Sanibel and Captiva. It was another week of mostly blue skies and sunshine with occasional brisk breezes. The Florida drought continues with rain still needed, but there was a short shower last night. Until rainy season begins (typically late May), locals and visitors should continue to enjoy the clear turquoise waters surrounding the islands....

Beautiful Clear Turquoise Water All-‘Round

It was another week of wonderful weather on Sanibel and Captiva. No rain, but beautiful days to be outside, biking, beaching, birding, shelling, boating, and more. There is gorgeous clear turquoise water all around the island and lotsa boats fishing off the causeway with tarpon running again. As recovery continues and eagle nesting season wraps up (which is Oct 1 to May 15 in Florida), it was nice this week to see more rebuilding at the former Dairy Queen location (1048 Periwinkle Way)....
