Archaeologists have completed a painstaking preservation of an ancient wooden canoe discovered by a resident of Fort Myers during the cleanup from Hurricane Ian in 2022.
The find is likely from the 16th century and could have originated as far away as the Caribbean

Just a quick report on LC571. We've dodged the bullet twice in the last few weeks. While the water was high, it never quite made to the door anywhere at LC. It came to about a foot below judging by the yellow grass line in the courtyard. The pool had to be emptied and cleaned and is now being refilled. Sat Night we tried to see the Comet but only got this sunset. We'll take that! As you can see the storm washed the sand dune up into the wooded dune area.

Friends of LC 571, it's been a long road back from the total destruction of Hurricane Ian almost 2 years ago. Sanibel continues its recovery and we're very happy to say that we have completed our rebuild of 571 and it is now ready for returning guests. It has not been easy and our rebuild was literally from the concrete shell up. Please enjoy a couple of pics of our renovation and as you can see, the beach has been replenished and the Loggerhead turtles are nesting like crazy. The Pool and grounds are in good shape and continue to be landscaped. Many of our favorite restaurants and stores are open while others didn't make it. Comments and questions welcome!

Hello Friends of Sanibel LC 571, We will be posting updates as we are able. Access is cut off due to the causeway washout and it is going to be a long haul. Thank you for your dedication to our condo. We anticipate heavy losses but we are insured and determined to rebuild even better! All the best to all of you please dm us if you have any concerns until Royal Shell is back up and running.

One thing about the beach on Sanibel is that it is never the same. It was overcast last weekend with storms looming. In the summer Sanibel is a special place, devoid of the crowds, hot and muggy but with a nice seabreeze and cool sunsets on the beach. a great place to spend a lazy summer week. All the restaurants close at 8:30.
