☔️💦☂El Niño season is upon us, and it’s time to check your house for potential problems associated with excessive rainfall. You have options to protect your property from molded carpeting, furniture, walls, appliances and electronics. If your home isn't on top of a hill, you may not have to resort to purchasing a canoe. Here are some things everyone can do to for peace of mind:

💧Safeguard in-home electrical and climate systems by raising switches, sockets, circuit breakers and wiring at least a foot above the expected flood level in your area.
💧Anchor and raise outdoor equipment Fuel tanks, air-conditioning units and generators should be anchored and raised above your flood level.
💧Modify water valves as a flooded sewer system can cause sewage to back up into your home or install an interior/exterior backflow valve.
💧Take preventative measures such as clear gutters, drains and downspouts. As needed move furniture, rugs, electronics and other belongings to dry areas, or at least raise them off a ground floor. In the event of flooding, shut off electricity at the breaker panel. Elevate major appliances onto concrete blocks if they're potentially in harm's way from flood water.
