🔥 GRACE THROUGH FIRE IS OFFICIALLY OUT IN THE WORLD.

Eighteen years in the making.

I had no idea I would someday write about that night. I certainly never imagined that eighteen years later, strangers would be able to walk into a bookstore and read about the things my family spent years not talking about.

That still scares the hell out of me.

But I wrote this book because the murder isn’t the whole story.

In some ways, it isn’t even the most important part.

The more important story is what happened afterward.

This week, I am not celebrating an anniversary. My dad died. A family shattered. There is nothing beautiful about that.

But eighteen years later, I can recognize that the worst thing that happened to my family did not become the only thing that happened to me.

There was a hell of a lot of life afterward.

Messy life. Beautiful life. Bad decisions and second chances. Love and loss. Successes I never saw coming and failures I probably should have. And eventually, sobriety, clarity, forgiveness, and gratitude.

I still don’t have all the answers. Maybe at almost 58, I’m finally comfortable admitting that.

But today, I know this:

I am still here.

Eighteen years ago, my world changed with a telephone call.

Today, I can look back at that woman in the old varsity hoodie, standing outside a house wrapped in yellow crime-scene tape, and tell her something she could not possibly have known:

You make it through the fire.

Not perfectly. Not without scars. And certainly not without screwing up along the way.

But you make it.

And eighteen years later, you sit down and tell the story.

Grace Through Fire: A Memoir of Murder, Tragedy, and Resilience is officially out today.
