Fiesta weekend is one of those weekends when downtown Santa Fe feels especially alive—and there is a quieter Sunday option if the concert hall is more your speed.

Fiesta de Santa Fe Weekend
Friday through Sunday at the Santa Fe Plaza, with free Bandstand performances throughout the weekend. The Children’s Pet Parade begins Saturday at 9 a.m., and Desfile de La Gente begins Sunday at 1 p.m. Food booths and the arts and crafts market will also be on the Plaza.

The Santa Fe Symphony Season Opener: Beethoven’s Fifth
Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Lensic, featuring Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with pianist Inna Faliks. Tickets are listed from $26 to $115.

Ever look up inside a Santa Fe home and wonder what those big wooden ceiling beams are called? In many Pueblo and Pueblo Revival-style homes, they’re vigas—pronounced VEE-gahs.

Vigas are large wooden beams traditionally used to support a flat roof. You’ll often see them crossing an interior ceiling or extending through an exterior wall.

Once you know the word, you start noticing them everywhere.

There are certain Santa Fe traditions that become part of who you are. For me, Zozobra is one of them.

I was born and raised in Santa Fe, and some of my favorite childhood memories are connected to watching Old Man Gloom burn. Even after all these years, I still feel that same excitement when the lights go out, the Fire Dancer begins her descent, and the crowd calls, “Burn him!”

As a child, I loved the spectacle. As an adult, I appreciate the meaning behind it so much more.

Zozobra gives us a chance to name what has been weighing on us, let it go, and begin again together. That combination of creativity, history, community, and renewal is part of what makes Santa Fe feel like home to me.

The 102nd Burning of Zozobra takes place Friday, September 4, at Zozobra Field in Fort Marcy Park. For current event details, visit BurnZozobra.com.

A seven-day snapshot cannot tell the whole story, but it can show where the pressure is.

The latest seven-day residential Market Watch for the SFAR MLS showed 63 new listings, 56 homes going pending, and 57 closed sales.

The other signal worth watching: 93 price decreases were recorded in the same snapshot.

For sellers, that is a reminder to price against today’s competition from the start. For buyers, a price adjustment can be a reason to look again—not automatic proof that a property is a bargain.

🎻 Santa Fe TradFest
Music, workshops, jams, and family programming Friday through Sunday at Bishop’s Ridge Camp & Retreat Center. Ticketed; check the organizer for pass options and the youth policy.

🎶 St. Paul & The Broken Bones with Tré Burt
Friday at Santa Fe Railyard Plaza. Doors at 6 PM and the show starts at 7 PM. Free and all ages.
