From the Leading Estates archives: a house built around its art, on Biscayne Bay in Gables Estates.

Walls lit for a collection run through 13,223 square feet, and the rooms look out over the widest lagoon in this gated corner of Coral Gables. Five bedrooms sit within, with seven full baths and three half, an elevator, and a wine room.

Outside lie lawns and flowering shrubs around a swimming pool. At the water stands a private dock, and from it the open bay lies straight ahead, with no bridge in between.

The newest estates above Park City are being built for people who have not been born yet. Charles Ochello of Vitruvius Built puts up houses his clients intend to keep in the family long past their own use of them.

Where Aspen and Jackson Hole are hemmed in by their own topography, Park City still has open land, and whole communities are rising from nothing on it: Powder Haven to the north, Wasatch Peaks Ranch, and Marcella Club in the Deer Valley East Village, where a Tiger Woods course opened in July.

Buyers who once came for two to four weeks a year now stay two to four months, and the plans have changed to suit them. In place of a single ten-thousand-square-foot house built around one great room, Ochello now builds a main residence of three or four thousand feet joined by glass bridges to separate guest structures, so three generations can share a property without sharing a room.

The rooms themselves are smaller and warmer, finished in timber and stone from the Mountain West. His plan sets have grown from thirty pages to more than a hundred.

From the Leading Estates archives: a castle on a hilltop above Siena, with a tower at each of its four corners.

Its origins run to the thirteenth century, and it passed through some of the most important families of the region, caught up in the power struggles of the Middle Ages. The walls form a rectangle around a central courtyard, and within them the original brickwork, stonework, and terracotta floors remain across roughly 15,000 square feet.

Some forty-one acres surround it, planted with more than four hundred olive trees and a vineyard. The view runs a full circle, taking in the old walled city of Siena and the hill towns and wine country beyond.

From the Leading Estates archives: June Hill Farm, nearly twenty-four acres in Greenwich with a hundred and fifty miles of riding trails directly across the road.

A nine-stall barn and paddocks stand on land that runs in meadow and low hills to two ponds, bounded by stone walls laid in the seventeenth century. The main house holds detailed millwork, stone fireplaces, and high ceilings, its kitchen opening to a family room and dining room, and French doors giving onto a wraparound porch above the pastures.

The principal suite has a fireplace, a lounging room, and double balconies, with four further en suite bedrooms beyond. A walkout level below opens to the pool. A second house stands apart on the land, a glass contemporary in the manner of Frank Lloyd Wright, with a pool of its own, a tennis court, and an orchard of mature fruit trees.

From the Leading Estates archives: Luggala, in a hidden valley of County Wicklow, given twice in its history as a wedding present.

Peter La Touche, of the Huguenot banking family, built the lodge in 1787 and presented it to his wife, and a later century gave it the battlements it keeps today. In 1937 Ernest Guinness bought the estate as a wedding gift for his daughter Oonagh, and under her it became the gathering place of Dublin's intelligentsia, and of artists and musicians from everywhere.

Her son Garech, who founded Claddagh Records and helped form the Chieftains, kept that tradition for decades. Another son, Tara, died young in 1966, and the Beatles wrote A Day in the Life about him. The white lodge holds seven bedrooms and looks south across the grass to Lough Tay, with two woods of native Irish oak and one of the few surviving eighteenth-century landscape gardens around it.

Today Luggala stands as before beneath its cleft in the mountain, five thousand acres beside Wicklow National Park, in private hands since 2019.

From the Leading Estates archives: Casa Mismaloya, set on a jungle hillside above the beach and cove at Mismaloya, on the south shore of Puerto Vallarta.

The cove below is the one John Huston chose in 1963 for The Night of the Iguana, the film that first drew the world's attention to this coast. The villa above it runs to 9,900 square feet across several levels, its main floor opening to a broad terrace and a heated infinity pool.

Seven bedroom suites each have a private bath and a balcony to the ocean. An upper level holds a theater and games room with a wet bar, and the terrace below it a palapa for dining in the open air, with the coastline running south beyond.

Nearly ten acres of oceanfront sit within the gates of Kapalua Resort, and with the open space adjoining it the property runs close to a mile between Kapalua Bay and Oneloa Bay. Interior and exterior living space together exceed 12,000 square feet: a great room, a principal suite, four further oceanfront suites each with a private lanai and outdoor shower, two bunk rooms, and a caretaker's suite, enough for twelve and more. A pool with a lounge and spa lies outside, alongside a gym, a game room, and two kitchens.

The point is culturally significant ground, and the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust today protects a portion of the property holding cultural sites and the nesting grounds of seabirds.

The architect Ed Lohrbach set its 7,852 square feet around that open center, so the main level wraps the light and the rooms radiate outward, each one turned to the Pacific. Interiors open onto terraces along the ocean side.

The principal suite takes the water through walls of glass, with a bath and dressing wing of its own. Outside lie a seaside garden, a swimming pool at the ocean's edge, and a cabana beside it. The beach beyond the gates runs two miles.

A regulation polo field lies at its center, irrigated and kept, with a seventeen-stall stable beside it and riding trails through the grounds. The Mediterranean house runs to 43,000 square feet: six bedrooms, a library, a wine cellar holding five thousand bottles with its own tasting room, and a theatre seating twenty.
